Please help with suggestions for backyard landscaping, design.? I am having a lot of trouble deciding on a design, and features for my backyard. It is a pie shaped lot on a cul-de-sac. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. Here are some pictures and a 'map' of my yard: http://backyardquestion.googlepages.com/backyard I have an easement (5 feet) on both sides (not the back) of my property, so any permanent structures are out - but, and plants, walkways, etc are okay - they can be temporarily moved if absolutely needed. I am planning on building a shed this year - fairly large and placing in in the top right of the yard as pictured above (near the #6) Some things we want are: Interesting plants. Some maintainence is okay, but we don't have time to spend hours every weekend - an intensive spring/fall cleanup is okay Walkway of some kind - preferrably no poured concrete Patio area. I am thinking of a small area (~15 feet wide circle, interlock brick, with built in firepit in middle More details at the website link. Thank
backyard landscaping help? We moved into this house last summer & now that warmer weather is coming, I'd like to focus some time on making the backyard look nicer. It's small (16.5'W by 39.5'L, plus a large deck). I have no idea what to do with it & was hoping some of you might have some design ideas. I will be putting up some new fencing (I was leaning towards this bamboo fencing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350047135604&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=022 ). I'd also like to have some flowers (I live in Hardiness Zone 6, if that helps with floral suggestions) & possibly a small pond or maybe just a pond-less waterfall (this would go back in one of the corners near the garage). Any flowers would have to be put in a raised flower bed (becaue of the dog). If it helps, here's a link to some pictures of my backyard: http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk281/xbeautifulxxdreamerx/backyard%20and%20deck/ I'd appreciate any design ideas you might have to make it look nicer! Thanks!
Starting a new Perennial bed...what to do about soil?? I am a beginning gardener, finally getting around to fixing up the overgrown weed-infested landscaping in our backyard. See pictures...this is the area I am working with. Basically, I dug up all the weeds, chopped and dug out some Yuccas (what a nightmare), and i am left with all this soil that has roots all over in it. I researched and ordered the plants I want there and have a design ready for when they get here. How do I get the area actually ready to plant in? The soil has all these little root clusters in it...is that ok? Should I dig all this soil out and replace it, or just cover with a bunch of new soil? And since this is a big area, HOW DO I HAUL AWAY/BRING IN ENOUGH SOIL to cover this area??? I can't imagine just getting bags from a garden store, that would take so many! HELP I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PROCEED! Thanks. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/kujayhawk3eb/BackyardBefore003.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/kujayhawk3eb/BackyardBefore001.jpg
