ya think an interior designer would like a draftsperson? Do you think that interior designers would be interested in someone who could create layouts and 3d presentations to clients? If so, as a computer drafter.. how could I approach someone with a freelance work-from-home style proposal? Thanks ahead of time for your answers to this question! : ) : )
what is the difference between an architectural designer, and architectural technician or a draftsperson? ? Also - Im based in New Zealand, so Im not sure if these things differ from country to country..
Salary - Senior Structural Draftsperson (CAD Technician) ? I've been working in the UK for the last 8 years and have a job offer for a Senior Structural Draftsperson with an Engineering consultancy in Perth WA. Just trying to figure out what the going rate is for a full time position in Australia. Also are we getting hit by the credit crunch back home yet, heard the mining industry is not faring so well.....

What are the architectural design practice limitations for a draughtperson in UK? I would like to know the limitations for draughtpersons in UK especially in the architectural field.I know most draughtspersons design extensions and lofts and prepare CAD drawings but what is the limit to their practice and also if there are any associations or societies for draughtspersons in UK.Im sure there is someone out there who can share some bit of information regarding this..............
Could a current Architectural draftsperson please give me some tips on how to forge a career in this industry? I am taking Art, Maths (core and mechanics), Physics (engineering side as opposed to medical), and geography. I want to become an Architectural Draftsman, but I can't seem to find any references to it within the UK. All degree courses that I have found have been for universities in America. I am just looking to perhaps get some info from someone already in the business, on what the job entails, how to go about becoming one, and what I should be doing to help my chances of becoming one. Thank you in advance.
Plans for Compressed Earth Block Press? There are many commercially availiable earth block press machines for sale. I want to make - and maybe improve if I can, on a current design so that I can produce blueprints for free distribution. Are there any sites/plans out there to get me started on making a prototype. I am a draftsperson in California. My goal is to make a full set of plans for an easily made CEB press to post online for anyone - in any country - to download for free and make their own press. The web actually has no sets of plans you can download for free. Even portions of plans I have seen have no measurements to allow someone to fabricate one. My intention was to try to find a working set of plans, that had no patent and draw them properly (I have years of CAD drafting experiance) and get them online so that people could build the presses with basic workshop tools.
Are draughtspersons in breach of the Architect's Act? I would like to know if qualified draughtspersons who work privately producing scaled drawings for clients are breaching the Architect's Act. The ARB website indicates that “a person shall not practise or carry on a business under any name, style or title containing the word “architect” unless he is a person registered under this Act.” Draughtspersons produce same kind of drawings as architects but do not use the title...can someone out there explain this to me ..........
Does this sentence make sense? Additionally, the area will be useful for faster communication between engineers and draftspersons because it is located adjacent to the Engineering Department. This reduces the time of walking up/down the stairs to communicate with them. I think the last part is messed up. How can I correct it?
What people do for a career...? I have had alot of strange reactions when I tell people what I do for a living..... I would like you to imagine the situation... Your single, in a night club or out some where and a bloke (or woman) comes up to you. You start talking just general conversation when you ask..."So, what do you do for a living?" They answer "I'm a draftsperson" ***A draftsperson is a person who draws sketches, plans, or designs. EG: house design, mechanical design, landscape design etc.*** My question is: How would you react to this answer? What would you be thinking when someone tells you "I'm a draftsperson"? Would you try and change the topic quickly or would you genuinely be interesting in hearing about the details of his or her work? Does being a draftsperson even sound like interesting work? Do you get a stereotypical view of the person as being "a nerd" or "geek"? If you are a draftsperson... what do you honestly think of your job? The answers you give will be going into my report for TAFE (education purposes). Thankyou for your help.

CAD / CAM career path? I am a Master's student in a field not relevant to CAD/CAM. But I now feel CAD shoud be field I should be in. But I was not sure of the career path in ths field, still not devating from the CAD. Will I able to have a career path, like an Engineer has? Will I be paid equal to an Engineer with same amount of experience as me (draftsperson)?
How do I deal with my in laws when they come over for dinner and in general? My in laws and I do not have a friendly relationship, its more of hello and bye greeting kind. Its never developed into something close for the past 17 years of being married to their son. There is certainly some built up animosity between us. They are coming over for dinner mainly to see their little grandson and for my father in law to cut my husband's hair, a tradition for them. I'd like to just formally greet them and stay out of their way by going upstairs and do some work on my laptop. I think it'll be less awkward considering I did try to be in the same room before and it just felt uneasy and unbearable. They have a certain standards on what a person does for a living and the family background they come from. While I am no doctor, lawyer or engineer which by the way are the professions of all their three children, I have an MBA. I can tell that they do not respect my parents and this I have been told by my own parents of incidents when my father in law was rude towards them. My parents are financially successful through my dad's construction business. This success has really impressed a lot of people and whether they admit it or not, my in laws as architect and draftsperson have never reached the level my father has. Because of their insecurity, they found a reason to nurse their egos by looking down at business as a lower level profession. My dad is a CPA but found more success and fulfillment in the business world. What do you think? How should I greet them? Can I just say hello, how are you with a smile without a hug? My father in law in particular has this annoying, condescending way of patting my back when I give him a hug. Its done in a light, fast repeated pat on my back, very artificial. I can understand if he's a frail old senior citizen but he's not.
What would you do with this job? Leave? stay? I love my line of work. I'm a draftsperson and love ever second of working on AutoCAD (software) and getting involved with drawings in construction. I get paid really well, for someone in my position, and the location is perfect, etc So i guess your wondering why i'm asking about leaving? Well for the last 12 months i've had no real work to do. I've had little jobs here & there but nothing major. Also because of my 'no work' i've got stuck with crappy paper work & sorting files :( Not what i love doing or what i'm trained for really. Also with no work i've lost my motivation towards my job and i'm starting to forget why i even chose this line of work :( It's because of the Global Financial Crisis that there is no work, but everyone recons the work should be picking up this year blah blah blah So what should i do? A) i find somewhere else to go, not get paid as much but be more rewarding with more work to do, or B) stay and suck it up cos i've got it good and i don't realise it? Also another reason for leaving is all my friends have left. I have ONE person left out of an office of 30 people that i call friend. So the work 'fun' has reduced along with the work load. Should that be considered a factor to leave? It sounds like not enough reasons to leave, but i've been thinking about it for a while and i don't know what to do :( Thanks everyone ♥

Potential Job stringing me along way too long, what would you do? I moved to a Washington in June and had a job lined up ahead of time. I started working the day after I moved, but learned quickly that I hated my job. I started looking for another job in September. During my search, I was surprised to receive an email from a job I had applied for back in May. They said that they never filled the position and wanted to know if I was interested. I should say I am an interior designer and the position they mentioned was an Associate Designer position. I told them I am very interested, and we set up an interview. Before the interview I was asked to take an online personality test. I felt this was very strange, but did it knowing how much I needed something new. The interview went extremely well, and I left feeling very confident that I would have the job. My husband is working, so I took a risk and gave my notice where I was working because I was being treated so poorly. The potential job called me again, for another interview. This one did not go as well. They still seemed very excited, but were asking the same questions as the first interview and the job description began to change from an Associate Designer to a 'draftsperson'. They also had me take yet another personality test, and sent me home with their software so that I could train myself, unpaid. They told me to call them in 2 weeks. Of course, at this point I have started applying to other jobs, with very little to no luck. The 2 weeks passed, and I called the firm. They set up yet another meeting with me. This meeting was overwhelming and stressful. They told me they were interested in part time or contract work- still no mention of what the compensation would be- with no benefits. The position has now become 'grunt worker' They asked me to present them with an outline by tomorrow (the meeting was yesterday), basically outlining the benefit that I can be to the firm. The boss says "I know this is my job, but I'm delegating". YES, it is your job. I don't know your firm, so I can only tell you that I'll do a good job and do the best that I can. This is a decision THEY have to make. I am so stressed out and don't even know how to begin this outline. He was talking about me including things like training procedures and procedures for their overall work strategy. What would you do? I'm so desperate for a job, but I'm also tempted to tell them off. Oh, and the designer there is SO nice. I just love her and would have so much fun working with her. It's the boss I want to kill. I know it was stupid to quit before I had a new job. I even knew it at the time, but I was being treated so poorly, that I would take breaks to sit in the stairwell and cry. Just not worth it.
What do I want to be? (Drafting)? I like drawing floorplans for houses and something I really find fun is making houses in the Sims games. Now what I was thinking is, because I love drawing and making floorplans, I dont know if I want to be a draftsperson or something. (Not sure what that kind of career is called) Iam not sure. I know there is a Associates degree at my school for Engineering: Drafting Tech, but Iam not sure if that is what I want. What do you think? PS: Also Ive been looking at ITT Tech School of Drafting and Design.

How do you cure fear and anxiety any tips welcome ( serious ones please)? I desperatly need another career/job due to disability I now have. To date I have not been sucessful with interviews applications atc. The problem I have is if I do get an interview and think I have a chance of being succesful I start having sleepless nights and suffer terrible fear and anxiety in case I do get the job! Its always the same, I have been where I have 12yrs now and I have even convinced myself I am not good enough to do anything else. Its not just nerves its crippling fear, any ideas on how to combat this? or knock it down to size a little? I feel so unworthy of doing anything else but on a good day I know that I am pretty intelligent and capable. I was a draughtsperson for 12 yrs before I had kids, I chose to leave and bring the kids up and dont regret it though. Thanx if anyone can help.
