How much should I charge to do interior design for a one bedroom apartment? So heres the deal. I'm not an interior designer but I am a professional artist, and I just did a painting for a client. He asked me to redecorate his entire apartment. Anything I want to do, I can. Now I have no idea how much to charge him (on top of costs). This would be a major undertaking-hiring helpers, cleaners, movers, ect. Should I charge a flat rate or by the hour? And how much? Has anyone recently hired an interior designer? how much did you pay? This has all been really helpful. I'd like to add some details thought. I don't charge hourly for paintings. Just a flat rate, I recently charged $5000 for a painting plus $500 for supplies. This particular fella doesn't know the going rate for interior decorators. I made a comment about his apartment and he said he wants me to decorate it and I said I would think about it. I mostly want to hear that it's okay to charge 5000 to 7000 plus materials to completely decorate his apartment. I'm talking everything from the kitchen to the bathroom. Teen Bedroom Interior Design Help? I am a sixteen year old girl and I need help designing my room! I purchased a colorful quilt and lamp shades from Anthropologie and am centering my room around those. I am going for the Anthropologie feel, sophisticated, vintage, and moroccan. They're from Ikea, so I can modify quite extensively, in terms of colour and textures. I need interior design advice/direction to make my living area workable. Does Tara Dennis do home visits?gmt? Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings.The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT

Interior design for bedroom... Which is the best idea. Or do you have your own? The room I am painting is a standard bedroom size. It is kind of dark and has one window. I am 16 years old so it needs to suit that. I am also a great photographer and stencil artist. =D Idea 1) Paint the entire room black, and cover it from head to toe in black and white photos with the same frame. A black frame with white inner paper frame. Th photos will all be symbolic and illustrate my life and all be taken by me! Also have canvas' with black and white stencils with a red and grey streak under the stencil positioned around the room. 2)All of step one but only doing it on one wall. And the other walls in a red. 3) Paint the whole room black and white and just cover it in stencils of all colors. Or 4) Give the room a cool theme. (Unsure of what though) Please I need help! Interior Design Question? I just moved in and I love the brick walls in my new apartment. It is consistent from living room, kitchen to the bedroom. My question is, my sister who gets the other room insists that it is "OK" to have a different wall design and/ or color to each of the bedrooms or rooms. I disagree. I see houses with different wall colors and i find them inconsistent and less tasteful. Is it acceptable? or a consistent wall color /design is much preferred?

Interior Design Help - my bedroom is very long and narrow, feels imbalanced, how do I decorate/place furniture? Hi, I live in a cabin that has long narrow bedrooms built into the side of the main structure. The room I sleep in is very long and narrow, and has a small window looking out on the long wall facing outside. I don't know what I can do to balance out the room, especially with a queen size bed that takes up the entire length of the short wall - leaving about 2 feet for a small bedside table. Is it a bad choice to major in Interior Design? I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Kansas and am on the track to major in Biology and then possibly apply to Med or Optometry school. Interior design advice - guest bedroom? I have a guest bedroom that has a black cast iron double bed frame, white double wardrobe (Ikea Hemnes), white bedside tables matching the wardrobe, cream walls and cream curtains. How to create a Interior decorating/design storyboard? I am working on a storyboard for my decorating class. Can anyone help me?? I can't find a thing on line! I have to have 1) a floor plan of a bedroom 2) co-responding fabrics that I would use and 3) a legend. Interior design with low budget and limited space? My sister has limited space. A small bedroom and then a 3 metre stretch of free space outside her room. She doesnt know what to do with it. I have suggested numerous things, but as I am 13, not 15, I cant really grasp what she wants. She want unusual flavour, something really cool. Any ideas? Like, lounge room, stuff like that? So what should I do with this bedroom? (anyone interested in interior design could help here lol)? okay. So, in the house we're moving into, my bedroom is actually 2. It is a staircase leading to a square landing, then on either side is a door. leading to 2 moderately sized rooms. Well, I can't really give a description of them (I don't know what they look like yet) what should I do with either of them? I love music, and play a crapload of instruments-flute, trumpet, guitar, piano/keyboard,bassoon, violin, Hulusi (chinese flute) and have a lot of music. I love to paint/do art. I have three parakeets (in 2 different cages) and other than that I have 2 bookshelves, a dresser, and a bed. What should I put where?? I know it isn't a lot to go on, but any vauge ideas that I could maybe build off of??

Interior design question - painting my attic bedroom? my bedroom is in the attic, is measures 20' x 12'. Its rather spacious, but what makes it difficult is the fact that is has a sloped ceiling on one side, and the a single window at each end. The sloped ceiling can make it feel smaller, and the lack of windows doesn't allow much light. I very much need to paint (its white right now) and want to do a contrasting wall in a deep red color. The contrasting wall would be the wall opposite the slanted ceiling (the one where my head board would be). The rest of the walls, to keep things bright, I was thinking of doing in a bright orange-gold color. Now here is where things get complicated. To visually lift the sloped ceiling, I am thinking of painting the two foot high straight wall below it with verticle stripes alternating the same orangy-gold with a one that is one shade lighter. My question is, should I continue the lighter or the darker of the golds throughout the rest of the room, should the ceiling be the darker or the lighter?

Anyone know of a company that sells rolling interior doors, similar to barn doors, for room such as a bedroom? My condo features unfinshed walls and several half walls. I'd like to add a door to my bedroom to keep out pets and add some privacy. I have seen some condos that half special barn or warehouse doors the roll on a large exterior wheel/roller. I cannot use a hanging door on a track nor a pocket door. I'd like the door to work on a series of rollers on each side of the threshold. I want the door to roll from right to left. Very similar to sliding doors yet I want rollers and no installed track. Hard to explain, yet I've seen it once, but I have found very little on the net concerning where to get the door and specialty hardware. Surely some sort of specialty interior design company makes this product. Any website, contact info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Interior Design Question- Color and Scheme of a Teenage Girl's Bedroom...? When we moved into our new house I was eleven years old and painted the room a light, lime green color. Now 5 years later, my parents are generously offering to buy me a new bedroom set. I have chosen a shabby-chic/French country theme with white painted wooden furniture and a classic metal bed (please see links below for pictures). I want to do the color scheme for my new room in blues, grays, and golden khaki hues. So here is the problem, we are planning to move in the summer so I would get to paint my new room whatever color I want, but for now my old room is still green. How can I make the lime walls work with blue/gray/gold/khaki curtains and a bedspread? I have not bought anything yet so would you please leave links for quality curtains, pillows, and duvet covers or bedspreads? Are you experienced in interior design?? Im seventeen and I want to work in interior design as a part time job. I love to decorate, and when i walk into an empty room i see endless possibilities. Need Spanish Translation for House Interior Design.? Downstairs: Living room with all the furnishings. One easy chair and two large sofas. A fireplace for when it gets cold during the winter. Dining room with a large dining table and many chairs for when we have dinner parties. A chandelier would make the room look more elegant. Kitchen with expensive appliances. please help! anyone good with interior design!? i'm decorating a 13 year olds bedroom. the walls are blue but i really want to have different colors so i can put alot of contrasting decorations in. i really really need a inexpensive area rug. i am absolutly in love with the ones on pbteen.com (pottery barn teen) but they are very expensive. i tried all the sites like kmart, walmart, target, jcpenney but they all seem to either have very adult or very childish rugs. i need one for a teenager with 17 year old taste thats not expensive. any ideas?

Interior design wall decor centering question :)? In my bedroom, I have the bed almost centered on the wall but more to the right a little bit (to allow for a bookcase which I have in the corner to fit). I'm hanging one wall decor piece (a wrought iron candelabra) on the wall with a wall sconce on each side of it (so 3 pieces on the wall). My question is: Do I center these with the my bed, or with the wall? Thanks. :)

Interior Design Advice I am a teenage boy with a large bedroom. At the moment it is painted two shades of blue. I have black-brown furniture and a wooden floor. I have quite a lot of natural light. I would like to change the colours of my walls but am struggling for inspiration. I like grey tones, but on their own I think that they look boring and dull. I think I would like three of the 4 walls to be a simple, light tone and the 4th to be a bold colour. Any Ideas??

Is having expresso coffee colour wardrobes, bedside units & tallboy drawers gonna be to dark for a bedroom? I'm thinking of having fitted wardrobes in this colour along with a huge mirror in the middle being on the chimney breast, thought this would break it up & bring in more light? However, not sure if this look will date so quickly? any interior design help in the bedroom would be much appreciated!

For interior designers: mixing woods? i have to do a scholarship project for interior design, i need to design an entire home and i have been sticking with light floors throughout the house but both bedrooms have dark wood, bathroom has cherry on window frames, living room has dark wood like the bedrooms, and the dining room and kitchen cabinets have light wood. is it okay to have different wood colors for different rooms? or should it be the same throughout the house. if it helps, im trying to use all eco friendly material. thanks

I have to price out carpeting for the floor of my bedroom for a project and i was wondering if anyone knows how to fidn the area if the the length is 15'5'' by 11'1''. i know you do the length x w, but does it work like that when your multiplying inches with feet. like this: 15.5 x 11.1. sorry if this is a silly question, but im terrible with measurements, and i guess with area also.

Do you think zen style interior is recommended for a master bedroom? I'm designing a master bedroom, the problem is, it is lack of basic furniture pieces and It must have an inexpensive yet stylish furnishings, I used zen style to bring forth an ambiance of nature and to have an airy and a well thought design for the couple,I used greens and neutral colors that would make a scenic view of nature... low level furnishings was done. do you think zen style suites well?

Help with interior design and colours please!? I am moving into a small room in a flat, it is aprox 10ftX12ft, with cream walls, i currently have a deep red bedroom and all black furniture. I want to create a kind of gothic victorian feel and am planning to move in most of my black furniture. The room has horrible white vinyl tiles on the floor and i don't know what to do with them! I am worried about painting the walls dark or having a dark floor as its so small with only one window but the light colours just aren't me, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I had two concerns rlly. one- is this a good plan? laundry room down stairs is ok? also- i plan on having 4 br upstairs so is it necessary to make a guest bedroom next ro the dining room or something like that? ( i dnt personally rlly need it). also in regards to the gr8 room, im not sure wther to have the whole back wall windows so u can see starght thru the house from the exterior front atrium window and put the fire pl on the adjacent wall. but if that were the case- wheere would i put the entment center and tv? i dnt rlly want it above the f Pl . how can i set up that room? also, should i have it in the back wall centered, then u cnt see throuh? the kitchen window bays out fyi thnks also, if you have pics of any good exteriors- plz post! well the rooms are pretty big. the great room will be bigger than 20x20 i think aroung 25X23 or something like that. i cant remember
