How can I get experience in interior design without prior experience? e.g. as a CAD designer...? It seems like a vicious circle. I am a recent graduate in Theology and I.T. I got a 2:1 but having recently done an internship working as a copywriter I got involved in the web design and design of the office and realised my where my strengths lie. I feel I would be very suited to a visual/creative career. I am meticulous, and very organised which I also feel are assets. I can't afford to go back to college/university or even do an evening course (as you can imagine I am currently in a lot of debt from the first degree!). I studied graphic design as part of my course but I lack industry experience, which companies are always asking for. I feel that given a chance, I could prove my abilities, but how to even get a chance? I would do an internship to prove my willingness to learn but can't seem to find internships that aren't for design students/graduates. I would be particularly interested to hear from designers who did not have a traditional route into industry. Many thanks!

Should i take decorating classes if i want to start a business in interior Staging? I can't go to interior design school because: 1. I don't want to be an interior designer 2. because i'm already getting a bachelor's in something else 3. design school is too expensive i simply want to stage interiors and exteriors to sell homes, apartment, condos, office spaces, commercial spaces; for individuals, major real estate investment/ property selling companies, and furniture stores. Can i learn staging/ decorating through books or decorating classes? without having to fully go back to school?

I am looking for a 3D interior design software.I know CAD can do that but it's hard to learn how to use it.? I am working on a project which requires me to redesign the hospital setting. I think a 3D interior design software will be a good aid in this case. I found one software called Sweet Home Design, but it doesn't have that many office modules plus the printout quality is not very good. Please help me out if you know any. I know photoshop or CS ... are good softwares, but it just takes forever for me to learn how to use them before i can use them. Thanks in advanced.

Is Interior Design right for me? Hello, I am 15 and I dream of the day I decorate my home and I've always wanted to decorate my mother's home, and I think interior design would be the perfect job for me. I want to get a little bit more info. About it to see what it would take to be a interior designer. How much do they make? Is it hard to fine a job? Do they have offices? Do they have to find clients or can they work under some one and be told what to do? How many years of education would it take? I would love if anyone could answer my questions Please/Thank You :) :)
How did you decide what to get your degree in? I'm 28 & a mother of 2 girls (one is 7 and one is 8 months). I started college 6 years ago & finished my freshmen year- just taking the basic credits you need for anything. I finally started back this fall semester . Originally I was going to go to school for Interior Design, then I kind of got talked out of it by my family (they said, "no guarantee you'll make money or get a job doing it" )and they suggested nursing. All the schools have at least a 5 year wait for nursing- so that's out. Then I decided to do Radiologic Technology (ie MRI'S & Sonograms) but the only school w/ a program for that has classes 8am-8pm- the schedule isn't flexible.. with 2 small girls- i'd never see them. So how did you decide what to go to school for? My heart is def in the arts area- i took a bunch of electives this semester and they are all art classes... webpage/photoshop to interior design for offices to Jewely etc.. Any suggestions on how to figure out what to do? Well even the nursing thing is something i'd be really into.. but my passion/my heart is in art and interior design. I've thought about being a teacher... how do you decide what you want to do? Like there are tons of degrees in the art field.. i'd love to do webpage design etc- but the market is so over-saturated i think it would be a really hard career
Interior Design Question? So we just finished up a small remodel on the office. The floors are now wood a reddish mahogany, the walls are painted a soft tan, and my husband just finished framing the window and put up a beautiful trim that is in white. The question is...I really like the trim and don't want to cover it up with a curtain...would a roman shade (or any other suggestions) work there. And I'm thinking a really pale yellow for the color...will that be ok with the colors already mentioned? And lastly if i go roman shade can that stand alone or do i need a valance or some sort of drapery to pull it all together. I'm hoping less is more but am open to ideas. Thanks...sorry so long.

I'm starting a graphic design business and want industrial style offices - Advice needed!? I am a freelance Graphic Designer and myself and other Designers are getting together to build a Design Studio, but the downfall of being a Designer is that we don't want your usual boring office. Hi I am a Interior Designer in Georgia. I'm currently unemployed? I have been on 5 interviews with no luck. I have been called back for a total of 3 call 2nd and 3rd interview. When they call to tell me that i didnt get the job i always ask if there was something I could of done better. Each time the answer is different. the first one said that I intimated some of the other workers, and that their office was going through alot of changes. 2. said I wasnt Ikea enough.??? the 3rd said were looking for someone with a little more experience. Helllo....it was a kitchen and bath sales job! I have 6 years of experience. I have a degree in Interior Design and not to toot my own horn I am quite good. what am i missing! Help i'mj not sure how to respond to question without email. I charge $500 dollar for a consult, once you hear and see my ideals on paper and decide to go with me, then I would subtract the above amount from the over all job. Accent wall with Damask wallpaper in office? Help!? We are remodeling our home with new paint etc and I work from home so I have my own office that I want to redo and I love interior design so I am always looking for neat things to try. Last night I was watching some show on HGTV and the lady did like two walls with black and white damask wallpaper and then left the other two walls white and it looked awesome. But what I am wondering is can I do one wall black and white damask wallpaper like an accent wall that my desk will go against, and then paint the other three walls a teal green color? Or will that look weird since the wallpaper is black and white.. I'll paste a link of the wallpaper and tell me what you think? Thanks so much!! http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/6/1/6/6/7/webimg/176496146_o.jpg
What hourly rate do you pay (or charge) for interior decorating? An interior decorator in the Baltimore/Washington area wants to charge me $100 an hour, and I'm trying to figure out if that's a fair price. She has a degree in interior design, but is in another (but related) line of work: sales office in a model home (where she helps people pick out cabinet and granite selections). She's done some decorating for people for free over the years to keep in practice, and is only now getting back into the field. She does have good taste and I believe a talent for this. Anyway, if you've used an interior decorator in the past: *How much did you pay? *When was this? *Where do you live? If you're an interior designer: How much do you charge hourly? How much experience do you have? Where are you located?
Will a degree in Graphic Design lead the path to a career in Web Design? ever since i was young i was very into desktop publishing. I have always been computer savvy and had my way with the internet. I've taken classes in high school in web design and shined much brighter than any of the other students. i started taking classes at the community college for web development and i stopped because i felt i was learning the business side more than the design. i also read that there is a fine line between development and design. I now realize maybe I shouldn't have quit and just seen where it took me, and I'm on the search for schools like ITT tech where they offer degrees in it. I have read that if I want to go into the actual design field of web design i'm better off getting a degree in Graphic Design. Is this true? Would I be better off getting a degree in graphic design and then learning the software necessary to design web sites? Or is it the other way around? I'm not good at algebra but great at geometry and logic. I orginally started off with a degree in Interior design and again I rose above other students but I found more interest in computers and decided to switch to web design. I started taking a programming logic class and i understood it but I wanted to learn the designing and spacial planning, and working with the user interface accessibility and functionality part. Also I currently workin in an office where I have to run Adhoc reports that I have become a natural at, something that is a rare thing. I have found that I can manipulate software with ease. Will a degree in graphic design be the right path for someone who is looking for a career in web design?

Today i came to know the art of interior designing. the way they have managed the space was marvless and i dobnt have words to express that . modular kitchen in delhi area was notiong less than a five star kitchen. This was my first experience . are they the best and exclusive in the industry of interior desiging.
lol...mural in the men's bathroom? good idea? Edge Designs is an all women run company that designs interior office space. They had a recent opportunity to do an office project in NYC. The client allowed the women of this company a free hand in all design aspects. The client was a company that was also run by all women execs. ............The result............well....... We all know that men never talk ...never look at each other....and never laugh much in the restroom....The men's room is a serious and quiet place...... ......But now, with the addition of one mural on the wall... ...lets just say the men's restroom is a place of laughter and smiles... (here's the picture that was posted: ) http://i10.tinypic.com/30vj8mc.jpg hahaha!
Where do the introverts work? I am aware that my personality traits are not the most desirable. I am totally not customer service oriented. I can be nice, I can use good manners, but I am not chit-chatty. My husband says I lack the "BS factor". I'd rather be left alone all day in a back office somewhere that I could do my work in peace. I like to do the same exact thing every day. Changes in my daily routine really annoy me. Do you have any ideas of where I could work? I'm going on an interview tomorrow w/ a temp agency re: data entry. In the past I've worked with Medical Records. I need about $12/hour. Can you suggest places where I might possibly fit in and be happy? Retail and Reception work are totally not in the picture. I have 2 years of college in Interior Design, but no degree. I consider myself creative and analytical. I'm a dependable worker w/ high work ethic. I take my job seriously and just need predictability and a routine.
How do you charge for designs and bids? My company designs and builds custom furniture and cabinetry. We also design offices, libraries, trophy rooms, and all the interior millwork. How do we recover some of the many hours of work involved to give a professional bid? On the jobs we contract, its part of the job. It's the ones we don't get or the ones the potential client uses to go with someone else.

College Courses that I can take online? Hi everyone! I just graduated this past May, and now I'm looking into some online courses. The only problem is, I have no idea what field to go into. What field is going great right now, other than Medical, that wouldn't take me very long to do. I don't have a lot of money, and honestly, I don't want to do something that will take years upon years to get. I just want to do something simple, so where I can just have a little something to look forward to, and get money so where I can get out on my own. I am interested in the following: -Writing -Photography -Interior Design -Administrative Office (I took a year one course on this) -Psychology -Counseling Or if there is anything else that is going well, please let me know. Thanks!
Career change needed with little or no education? I work in an office and have been doing office work for over 10 years and do not like it. I find myself bored and not satisfied with what I do. I am a very creative person and need a job where I can be creative and feel good about what I do. I like interior design but where I live there is not as much of a demand for it anymore. I'm looking for a career with little or no education. I'm good at working with people as well. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
College Grad running a new business? Oh Brother? I intern part time at a architecture and interior design firm in their marketing/public realtions department. I am in school for advertising and I have 2 semesters to go (May 06). I have a small gourmet baking business that I started a few months back and business is starting to pick up. Im starting to look at some building in an area I would like to focus on in the city. I feel the city I live in is lacking a full service gourmet bakery that provides a variety of different desserts that are rich, natural contents and somewhat expensive to produce and sell. I considered getting a job in my field after school, (with my experience i could go to any construction,architecture,plan... firm)but there is no way i would be able to do that full time and bake on the side. I considered volunteering at a real estate office for my next internship to learn about this business and investments so i could do that and support myself during the new business processs after i graduate. What to do? Help?

What is the impact of natural daylight on worker productivity? I need to convince my executive committee that, while designing office space, putting executive offices along the window line and staff spaces along the darker, interior (core) space is not good for morale or productivity. Are there studies that support my position?
Interior Designing Teen Bedroom? Hey all! My (almost) 15 year-old daughter is moving down to our (what is now) office. We have already painted her room a lilac/lavender color. She found a beautiful metal queen-sized bed frame and she doesn't know what else she wants. She can't decide between black or white furniture. The bed is a four-poster black bed http://www.ifurn.com/Metal-Beds_ContourMB.html#ProdDetails and she found a room she really likes http://www.house-decorating-ideas.com/TeenGirlsPurpleBedroom.html but it doesn't give the curtain names or anything. We have a 9 drawer double-dresser that is a natural wood and she wanted to paint it but is not sure now what to paint it. She was going to paint it white but now can't decide between black or white. The trim of the room is white. She wants the color scheme to now be purple, black and white. Would that work? Do you have any ideas for her room? She doesn't like contemporary but she doesn't want her room to look childish. She wants it "pretty" and sophisticated. Oh I almost forgot. She wants black and white photography in her room. Nothing with big flowers and no stripes or polkadots (Some exceptions) She has a very specific idea about her room and she just needs a little help (Remember a black metal bed) So what color furniture? Correction nothing with big/small tropical flowers! =) Her room is 11'-6'' x 14'-9'' There is only one wall with nothing on it (no windows, closet) Other walls not a lot of clear space to work with. Windows close together on two walls and then the closet. Any ideas for the closet? Thanks for your feedback everyone!
I work at an office for $7 an hr,4-5 HRS everyday. I get very tired and my hubby has a very good job.? Should I continue to work there? The thing is I am making just about $35 a day. Is that too too low? My hubby has a very well paying job and I feel insecure and feel less power in this marriage bcoz I dont earn and dont do anything. I plan to go to a certificate program in real estate and another in interior design in the evenings, once every week too. What do u think abt this situation? My husband is a very good guy. I live in New Jersey. He has never made me feel bad abt being home but I still feel that way.
What Legal Protection (in TX) can one get if they were verbally attacked buy a superior in the work place? No physical harm was done, but pleanty of walls were hit by the one making the attack, my friend did not so much as raise thier voice but everyone outside of the office could hear everything the attacker was saying. A report WAS filed with both upper managers by witnesses. So far he's been spoken to but what legal protection does one have to keep this from being swept under the rug. She was verbally attacked at work by a broker she works for. This is someone who holds her in high esteem but this is still the 3rd occurance of a rage attack in the last 9 yrs over a non work related issue (PC repairs, interior design choices, etc.) and turns the issue into a form of character assasination making her think her job is at stake for something NOT job related. She has been in good stading both personally and professionaly (7 borkers in all) for the last 9 years in the sercurities industry, but this incident still gives her random panic attacks and dreads going back to work. He has verbally assaulted others, even men (these 3 attacks mentioned were only to her alone) and 1 other broker with rage issues had been suspended. We are trying to keep her from having to just suck it up and want to know if she has a legal leg to stand on should management fail to protect her. We are just thankful she was NOT physically hurt and don’t want to wait for her to get hurt before taking action. Sorry to add more details - and thanks so far but to those saying she should quite: She works for 7 brokers total in a form of like 20. There are 4 other Sales Assistants on the floor this guy could end up working over and this is not the only boss she has. Quitting seems more of a desperate act than a real solution to the problem of HIM and the IF the company doesn't do anything about it. Thanks again.
how casual should i dress on a casual friday? tomarrow is my first day at an interior design firm as an intern. they said in an email to dress casual b/c i will be helping them move the office around to make room for me. but how casual is too casual for a first day??? what should i wear?? thanks in advance
Really strange dilema, should the police be called? I work at a small real estate company in Michigan, and right next door to us is a large brick building with a few different places in it. Interior Designing, Hair Salon, and another place that has JUST been purchased within the last 2 months called "Spa". We here at the Realtor's office are friends with the Hair Salon owners, and they informed us that 4 young asian women work at this "Spa" place, and since they've opened, only men have gone inside. My boss and I decided to go take a look. When you go in, there are no spa products anywhere, and quite a few rooms with closed doors. When we entered, one of the young ladies came out of one of the rooms and closed the door. We asked about their rates and they only said $80/hr. We asked if they had a card, and they don't. We also took a tour and she showed us one of the many rooms - with only a matress on the floor & a candle on a table. We also heard some low pitched noises, what seemed to be a man's voice. Could this be a whore house?! "Goat" - You have obviously never been in a spa because they always sell products & packages, and when you ask about their rates, they go into much more details than "$80/hr." And no, I've never seen a matress on the floor at any other spa places. Your grammar could use some work too.
Does anyone out there have an online interior design business? I'm curious about starting one, to run from my home, but not sure if it would work. I am a professional designer, but work for someone else currently. Have done work via email for several clients. For designers - is this something you have done? Did it work? Generate any income? For potential clients - would you hire an online designer for an "E-Consultation" for your home or office? I need to know if there is a market for this type of thing. Thanks!
Question for Adminstrative Assistants? I'm applying for a position with a retirement planning company as an adminstrative assistant to the Director of Communications. I have a B.A. in psychology and have never done this type of work before. I've worked in an office environment before but as a case manager or mental health professional. I also have a degree in interior design. My question is pretty general. What are some of the best qualities or attributes an administrative assistant should possess to be a effective?. This is an entry level job, only 1-2 years of experience needed. But a friend who's a principle in the company is recommending me, so I don't want to let him down. What sort of questions will be asked during the interview and what sort of questions should I ask about the company and the position? Thanks! Thanks!
What exactly is the use of me learning this? [[ Biology/Science ]]? Just the usual question from a teenager saying, "Why am I learning this? What use is it?" And it's about Biology/Science. I want to get a career in something artsy. My dream job is interior design, but coming from my best friend's mom, the competition is deadly. So something artsy or maybe an office job? What exactly is the point of me learning it? if you care, I'm fourteen years old.

i have to write a paper about caregivers communicating with patients?? I need help!!!!? 6.Scenario #2—Vivian Vivian has been having abdominal pains for the past week. Now that she has started her new job and received her new health insurance, she is finally able to schedule an appointment with a doctor. As Vivian arrives in the waiting area of the new doctor’s office, she notices the simple interior design: gray walls, black chairs, and two notes on the walls stating, “Turn off cell phones” and “Have co-pay ready.” She signs in at the front desk and hopes to talk to someone about the urgency of her pain. As she begins to speak, however, the assistant interrupts her, instructing her to take a seat, then quickly calls a waiting patient up to the desk. Vivian sits down and tries to suffer through the pain quietly. When Vivian is finally called back to the examining room, the doctor walks in and begins talking as if he were in a race. “Hi, Vivian. I’m Doctor Walls. I’m just going to listen to your breathing.” He tells her every step he is taking during her examination, then asks her the following questions: “When did you start feeling the pain?” “How often do you get the pains?” “Does any other part of your body hurt?” Vivian responds to his questions and watches as he quickly writes notes in her medical file. He prescribes pain medication, stipulates that she may have an ulcer, and instructs her to set up another appointment for an ultrasound. “Do you have any questions?” he asks as he is about to walk out the door. A bit overwhelmed, she replies, “No, I guess that’s it.” For this project, you will choose one scenario from the list of three located at the end of Appendix A. Each scenario describes patients you might come in contact with when working in the health care field. You will examine the role of communication for each key player. The paper will include a description of the scenario, an analysis of each key player’s perspective and role in communicating within the chosen patient scenario, communication implications, and methods for resolving the chosen patient scenario. You will be introduced to these concepts and terms throughout the course; your readings and activities will help prepare you to design your paper. For your final project, you will write a 2,100- to 2,800-word paper that covers the following elements: 1.Introduction 2.Description of the chosen patient scenario: Summarize the patient scenario you chose, considering the following questions. •What major components of health communication are present, if any? •Is promotion of collaborative communication (verbally, nonverbally, environmentally) immediately recognizable? 3.Key Player Perspectives: Describe the perspective of each key player for your chosen scenario. Note: Some scenarios may not involve all the key players listed below. •Patient: Provide the perspective of the patient. How does patient socialization and characteristics affect his or her perspective? Consider the patient’s illness and personal identity. Is the patient of a marginalized population? If so, how can this impact the patient’s perspective? •Caregiver : Provide the perspective of the nurse or physician. How might the socialization process, physician-centered communication attributes, stress, burn-out, etc., impact his or her perspective? •Family or friend: How does the family member or friend perceive the situation? What does his or her attitude or behavior exhibit? How would the relationship to the patient impact perspective? •Medical assistant: How does the medical assistant perceive the situation? What does his or her attitude or behavior exhibit? How would his or her job description impact his or her perspective? 4.Communication implications: What factors might contribute to poor communication? How might key players’ differing perspectives impact communication and compliance? You may want to consider the following in your response: Biomedical and biopsychosocial perspectives Patient and caregiver roles Cultural views Over- or under-supporting strategies Boundaries of job parameters 5.Communication resolution: Discuss tips or techniques that each key player should exhibit or utilize to promote open communication and collaboration. Also, consider changes the organization may implement to address the communication issues involved. You may want to consider the following in your response: •Health communication technologies •Tone of voice, body language and gestures, and facial expressions •Medical reform efforts •Factors that promote effective teamwork •Social support groups and strategies •Environmental restructuring tips •Organizational culture improvements 6.Conclusion 7. 8.Final Project Scenarios
How do we convince them that it looks like crap??? My bosses at work have rotten taste, I mean ROTTEN. They just bought a beautiful new building for us to relocate to nearby and it was previously an interior/home design studio (so you can imagine the beautiful arcitecture and design on the interior). They plan on using out current old ass desks, huge, dented filing cabinets and pretty much nothing matches. All of us girls have been trying to help make suggestions on how to place things in order for this place to flow and the more we suggest to more rediculous their ideas become. It looks like a huge garage sale in our beautiful new office! Help!
how do interior designers work? I mean to say do they have an office job or a field job as someone told me interior designers have to do a lot of field jobs they heve to visit the sites again and again that the need to design however I had the idia that these designers have a desk job and not a field job becouse I have an idea they design everything virtually (on computer) please guide me and give me a true picture of the job as I am considereing it as a career option i am sorry its not idia its idea
Have you ever retaliated or gotten revenge on a previous boss or co-worker? Time to fess up -- and please provide all the lurid details. And no fantasies, please -- only real-life events. My story: I worked for three months as office manager for a small interior design firm, and the boss/owner proved to be an unbalanced nutjob the first day. He would yell at me for actually doing my job correctly, and did other inanely ridiculous things [like actually advertise our kitchen space as being for partial rent for catering companies]. I was looking for a new job by the second day, and when I found one three months later I did not give psycho-boss any advanced notice that I would be leaving -- you have to realize, by that point I was just profoundly stressed out and on the verge of a breakdown. When I got the new job, I asked if they could wait three weeks for me to start, and they easily agreed. The reason I asked for three weeks was because that was when my psycho boss was going to leave town for over a month to do a design job 2,000 miles away -- and the architect [the only other employee] was going to be traveling with him, so I would be the only one there. Miracle of miracles, they were due to leave on a Friday morning. When they left, I quickly went into action. I had already written my letter of resignation, so I put it on psycho boss’s desk. The letter included my candid opinions about what a deranged nutjob he was, how badly he ran his business, and just generally what a wretched human being he was. I then straightened up my work area, left current paperwork on my desk, cut my final paycheck on one of the pre-signed checks he left [that was another way he was bizarre -- he would routinely voice suspicions about my trustworthiness, but would nonetheless entrust me with pre-signed blank checks when he was out of town], left the keys on top of my resignation letter, gathered my coat and briefcase, and closed the door securely behind me. The only telephone number he had for me was my cell phone, so when his calls started coming in I simply didn’t answer his calls. After about a week, I called his cell phone around 2:00am -- I knew that he turned it off at night -- and left him a quick voice-mail message informing him that I no longer worked for him. His FIFTEEN calls to me the next day went unanswered. I'm not proud of having done this childish stunt, but the fact is it was quite effective in obliterating my extreme frustration. Yes, revenge is rarely truly satisfying, but in this case it mostly was -- I think his having to travel back home to deal with this was a good lesson for him to learn [he had to return home to deal with the day-to-day administrative work, including communicating with his other clients]. California is an “at will” employment state, and he had previously threatened to let me go at least ten times over trivial matters -- a really mean-spirited yo-yo’ing of my emotions -- so there was nothing wrong with my exercising my right to quit without advanced notice. [By the way, I mentioned that in my lengthy resignation letter.] Well, I called this a “childish” stunt in the above paragraph, but it wasn’t really. “Childish” would be better used to describe my subsequent six-month stint of signing him up for magazine subscriptions, children’s books, religious paraphernalia, and ads for hideous Franklin Mint monstrosities -- if a postcard order form crossed my path, it got filled out and mailed.
Are all these saturated businesses? Maybe I'm just naive and live in spoiled southern California, but is it just true from my personal observation that these business are too saturated, not profitable for beginners and don't need more competition? 1. Publishing (books, flyers, magazines) 2. record labels 3. Button making 4. t-shirt printing 5. webstores & startups that never get pass the local community 6. Restaurants 7. Retail office supplies, computers 8. Computer repair 9. Interior design 10. web design If so, what are some other businesses that are too many out there and would not need more? If not, what are places that'll welcome these businesses in demand?
