Supplement income by doing some MS office/design work at home? I've been considering using my computer skills to earn some cash from home -formating documents, designing posters/publicity/leaflets, creating basic and advanced Excel documents and so on. Problem is, I have these skills but have no idea how to use them from home to make money. Does anybody here do something similar and how do I start off doing something like this? Thanks in advance

HELP! I need design advice for my home office Okay, so i have a really boring cluttered home office and i really need help. It has white walls (blech) and a lot of black and dark cherry wood furniture. I really would like to keep with the cherry wood. Unfortunately i have a bland, uncomfortable futon (blue "mattress" with black "supports") that i can't get rid of. I also cannot get rid of the large map of town and the large high school class pictures displayed on the wall. (though i would appreciate some help on how to display them, right now its pretty much one, then below, another...) Anyone have any ideas for wall color ( i REALLY need help with that) and what i can do about the futon and what i should do about the wall displays and etc? Right now my home office is very cold, bland and unattractive-looking. I really want to soften it up while keeping the pieces i already have (2 end tables, 2 desks, a book shelf, all in dark cherry wood. Also the futon, though it seriously needs help). Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
Can a UPS designed for a home office work for a residential garage door opener? The only door to my garage is the one opened by the garage opener. I want to store my earthquake supplies in there, but if the power is out, I won't be able to open the door to get inside the garage. The garage door opener manufacturer does not offer a battery back-up option. If I can open the door from the outside just once, then I could pull the emergency release and open/close the door by hand. It's getting in the gargage the first time when the power is out that's the problem.
HOME DESIGN PROS -- I need your help!! How do you squeeze multiple needs into just 2 rooms?? Not sure how to set up a bigger playroom..... I work from home, so need the office set-up to be convenient and we rarely have guests, but I think I should keep the queen bed. The baby's room is very small (10x10) and other room twice as large (10x20)... should I squeeze the bed / desk into the small room and leave the large room for baby / play area as my main goal is to have a large space where the baby can spread out his toys now that he is growing (he is 1 now) Or do I keep the office on part of the large room and somehow divide the rest for baby (convenient b/c I can work while he plays -- but who wants computer equipment in the baby's room??!!) We are also planning to have anther baby sometime soon, so I giess if I make the large room just for baby, he will later share with the newborn -- is this a good idea??? This can't be so difficult, but I am having quite a time fitting the many needs (baby playroom, office, guestroom, new baby crib area in future) into two spaces
What types of careers can you do at at HOME OFFICE? I am trying to pick my major, and I am so confused. I am really creative, I love writing, I lso love realisitc things. So, I was thinking maybe accounting or graphic design. My ULTIMATE goal is to teach at a community college or online college which requires an online degree, but that would be my dream!!! Anyway, what types of careers would allow you to work at home? Do accounting or graphic design?
Can I fit a functional home office into a two-wall 7' x 5' "nook"? We are remodeling our kitchen. One of the things I really need is a great, functional home office (I work from home in freelance writing and graphic design). The home office will need to fit a decent sized desk (I have a big Dell XPS computer), a full-sized filing cabinet, storage for work and home paperwork, owner's manuals, software and music discs, a mail filing system, etc. It would also be nice if I had some wall space to display a bulletin board and white board. The "nook" is 5' deep, 7' wide and I would like the desk to face out if possible (instead of being along the inside wall). I have a 2.5 year old as well as a baby due in two weeks so it would be nice to be able to keep an eye on what they're up to while I get some work done. Is that enough information for advice on how to design my space?
Need help designing a home office/dressing room? We have very little closet space in our house. My husband's clothes are in a spare room down the hall in a huge armoire. I hate that his clothes don't have a closet, or fit in our bedroom. I don't know if I should try and design the spare room to be an office/dressing room that houses his clothes and still functions as an office/study, or if I should try and fit that huge armoire in our bedroom. (it will fit, but just barely and it will be really hard to move!) Any ideas on designing a dual purpose room or just a really nice office/study? Organization tips for a house with no closets?
What should I consider when setting up a home office? does anyone know anything about or have the software program called 3-D Home Design? Here is my real question, I do have the program and do use it, but is there any way to create a home or office plan and take the 3-D tour of said project and use it outside of that software? Can I save it into another file and use it during a presentation for new clients to better show or facility rather then them visiting or trying to explain it. If anyone has this information and is willing to help me out it would be much appreciated.
Modern Office Furniture? I'm looking for somewhere to buy modern office furniture online, with cool designs. Here are some of the stuff i am looking for: http://www.nabuzz.com/modern-minimalist-computer-desks-furniture-home-office-designs/modern-home-computer-desks-design http://www.newtopfurniture.com/255-modern-and-elegant-desk-for-home-office-design-ideas/modern-and-elegant-desk-for-home-office-design-ideas-black-and-purple-colors/ thankyou. Should I Rent A Small Office For My Web Design Service? I work fulltime as a freelance web designer. I'm trying to determine whether it would be worth the money to rent a small office in town for my business. At the moment, I'm only bringing in about $1600-2000 a month...but that number keeps going up the more I advertise. (I'm relatively new to this business) My question is: Will it help to bring in more income if I have an office that people can come to...or should I stick with my home office and save on the rent? I would appreciate advice from fellow web designers in similar situations.
Home Office Deduction in Rental with Roommates? For a period of 2010, I rented a room in a large, warehouse style apartment. I shared the apartment with five other people. I used a portion of my room as a home-office for my freelance web design work. I would like to write off a portion of my rent as a home office deduction, as it was used exclusively and regularly for my work. The question I have is whether I need to factor in the common areas of the apartment in my determination of the percentage of my rental I can write off. It was approximately 15% of my room, but only a small percentage of the overall apartment. If I need to factor in the entire apartment, do I find out the common space, then divide by the number of tenants, then add that to my room to figure out my 'share' of the apartment? I have read over the irs.com website and cannot find any guidance regarding shared living spaces and home office deduction. In response to Landlord: The IRS explicitly states that Renters may deduct for Home Office. Judy, thanks for the response. I am a professional and understand the tax law, I am more interested in this particular nuance re: common areas. FYI - I do have a separate laptop for personal use. As I stated, I used a corner of my room exclusively for my work. A portion of my bills that I wrote at the desk - electricity, gas, rent, will also be deductible from my taxes. According to IRS.gov, I do not need to have a partition or any physical separation. I have a floor plan of the room, and this will be a good excuse to visit some old friends for measurements of the apartment as a whole. I am not that put off by a little bit of math, but I am invested in claiming money that is mine.
Is there a company that will design and setup my home work/gaming space? Is there such a company that could design my office/gaming/home theater to make it not so cluttered and so that my work flow would be smoother? I've seen many beautiful offices online and could copy one, but my room is odd in that it is also my bedroom and home theater. In addition to design I would need them to organize cables to allow access to things I need and so forth. Would I need an interior designer and also an electionic/computer set up person. I was thinking there might be a specialty company that would do all of this. I am disabled and cannot myself. north central mississipppi
WHat do you need in order to set up a home office for a web designer.? My son is really into web design and I'd love to get him all the professional tools he needs. How much should I budget for professional software and equipment for his new creative space? (I do know there are free tools out there, but I would like for him to whatever is industry standard.)

How can I work from home? Any ideas for LEGITIMATE jobs I can do from home? (not looking for any of those scams or jobs I have to pay $ to read about). I am open to a variety of things, but really looking for something I can do from my home office. I have experience in healthcare administration, travel, pets, graphic design, event planning, etc. Thanks!
What is the best printers for home use? I am looking for the best printers for home use. For me the best printers for home use should be an all-in-one printer that beside the printing also has fax and scanning capability. The best printers for home use that you find should also have a cool design if that is possible as I want to make my home office look professional. My budget for the best printers for home use is maximum 200$. So what is the best printers for home use in your guys opinion and why should I choose that? Thanks in advance!
Is designing and building your own home difficult? Is it any different/cheaper from buying? I want to build one day, despite people's objections; I'm an Architectural Draftsman and feel the desire to live in a house I designed by me; has anyone ever done so; I've heard and met people who have but not of their adventures through their project. What is it like? Was it worth it? I would like to build in the country side; semi-rural: it snows up there. I will be living alone w/ pets. I would like natural building materials such as stone, timber; even concrete masonry units; would like a basement and attic; two story structure; of the Italian villa style/cabin or contry cottage. I would love to do some painting up there and have a library and home office; a car shed, two-car garage; and a room for my collections of items of the history and weoponry; I would like the house to be a family freindly home: to gather relatives in times of reunion or yearly tradiditon, having for them rooms to stay the night(s).
Where can I find super insulated home designs? I want to build a super insulated kennel/barn/shop/office building using elements of passive solar design and any other energy efficient design elements. The kennel/stable requirements lead me to think that the slab on grade structure should probably have concrete walls for at least the first four feet.
Are there any programs where I can design a room online? I have this vision of what I want my home office to look like. I cannot draw to save my life, so sketching it is out of the question. So I was wondering if there was something online where I can design the room & decorate it.
Any Closets by Design Reviews? I'm hoping to get some feedback about Closets by Design - maybe more specifically in the DFW area. I keep thinking about considering them for home office, but I can't stand when a company requires you to meet with a "consultant" just to get pricing. I don't want to waste time on a speech about something I don't think is budget-friendly. Anyone know anything about them? Whether they cost in the hundreds or if its thousands? I really do like the model offices they show.
Online Design Store for home deco? Does anyone know an online store for inside home decorations? im looking for design stuff, modern and graphical! i saw i store, which i cant seem to find again, where i saw stuff like a soda can trash bin, a small red vintage fridge, pop corn buckets, office stuff and kitchen, actually everything, but like really creative and cool stuff. so i was wondering if anybody knows an online store where i can get such things?
A lot of money to spend on building a new Graphic Designer's home office for myself. Whats the best stuff? I have a lot of money to spend on building a Graphic Designers home office for myself. I need help with figuring out the best PC (not Mac), tablet laptop, and Monitor(s) to purchase. I have everything else I need but these 3 items are stumping me. I like the HP Core i7 Desktops and HP TX2000 series tablets for drawing. Anyone out there a graphic designer that can help? No photo editing just intense Web Design, Illustrator, and Photoshop work.
What do you think is the best *new* idea for home offices? I'm writing an article and would love your input! I'm working on a piece for a large newspaper and asking this question of design leaders around the country. I think the article would benefit from the users' perspective, too. What do you think is the best idea, trend or product for 208 home offices? Thanks for your input. By answering, you consent to having your reply published in print, either individually or as a group poll result. Thanks again! BTW, if you want to see other articles I'm written on design and/or my professional bio, please visit my Associated Content page at: http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/111526/jamie_goldberg_nkba_akbd.html
Where can I find office supplies in fun colors and designs, like pink? I've seen women on tv with completely girly offices; pink filing cabinets and all kinds of office supplies in fun girly designs and I'd love to incorporate those things into my office at home and make it a more fun place to be. Hey, if I have to be in there paying bills and sorting paperwork I at least want to like looking at my surroundings!
Where can I buy this beautiful desk? I am in awe of this desk and I find it on websites all the time. Unfortunately, I cannot find it anywhere where I can actually purchase the item. Please and Thanks! http://www.newtopdesign.com/2927/modern-and-elegant-desk-for-home-office-design-ideas/modern-and-elegant-desk-for-home-office-design-ideas-white-and-purple-color/
Can someone (who has purchased Bush office furniture) tell me what you think of the quality and value? I am looking for an inexpensive computer desk (and hutch) for my home office. I want something attractive, of course, but I don't want it to fall apart or give me the frustrations that I have with my current desk- such as jamming drawers. Bush seems to have fairly attractive designs (from what I see online), but I was wondering about the quality. If you have any recommendations for an attractive, inexpensive desk/hutch with decent quality- let me know! :)
Is this projector designed for home theater use, or office use? Please, all I want to know is if it is or not. I don't want your opinion on weather or not I should buy it. All I want to know is if it is made for home theater use. http://www.aboutprojectors.com/Toshiba-TDP-ET10U-projector.html Also, what about this one? http://www.projectorcentral.com/play_big_IN72.htm the picture wont look that bad will it? My TV is in 480i, and it looks very good to me.
Any decent ideas to earn income from my home office? I have a home office for my construction company, however on down times I wouldn't mind continuing to earn an income. I have a business diploma, however I have studied accounting as well. I have tried other ideas, but everyone seems to be trying to make money getting you working for them. Not caring that you started looking in order to make supplemental income for your family as well. I believe that win-win situations exist. If there are offers out there that support this mentality they are bound to prosper greatly in helping others prosper. I am not looking for a start your own organization offer. Those are designed for the looking to get rich individuals. I already have a company that requires some of my time. Any decent ideas that may be explored?
Can you help me build the right computer? I design homes & offices using the program Chief Architect. The performance of the program is ''okay'' but movement is somewhat jagged and not everything works correctly. I would like to build a new computer but don't know what is the best hardware for the job. Gaming machines aren't an answer. What is the best video card, cpu, motherboard, etc., for creating a pc that will give me top performance in rendering & operation of house design software? $3000 is the most I can do for now.
If you had the opportunity to design your own art work...? If you had the opportunity to have someone design a painting or drawing, or any kind of art work for your home of office, what would it be? Why would you want that style or type. What do you look for when you go purchase artwork, (money aside) what do you want to feel when you look at the artwork? Thanks
Architecture Computer Program? Hi, I am looking for a good architecture computer program. I design kennels and dog daycares, and need a program that has different flooring and walling options, as well as can build half walls. A program that can do office design can work as well. I can use a program that does home designs as long as they have many different options as far as materials go. Any suggestions? Something that is somewhat easy to master as well. Thanks! Also include a link where i can purchase if possible (ie: amazon, circuit city, etc).
'Google books' shows me a different versions in my office and home? I don't know how it's different or how to solve it. In my office when I 'search' for books in 'Google Books', I could get some nice books in FULL VIEW options. It has an option for download also. But when I try the same in my home, the versions are totally different. I see the same book in 'Limited Preview' section or the worse in 'Snippet view' or no preview area. I really don't know what is the difference. The book is also very different from what I see in the office. I mean, if I got some xyz book in office, the book with same title but different graphics (fonts, pictures, cover design) is available here, but in the limited preview area. It happens even if I use the same link in both the places. Can somebody help me explaining what really happens here, or how could overcome this.. Thanks!!
Home design issue: What can I do with a HUGE closet off of my living room? I have a funny little cape cod house. Master Bath & Master bedroom along with another bedroom on first floor. In between the two bedrooms, off of the living room, is a strange 'closet' (maybe 10 x 12 room without any windows). I have had my office in there and its just not a nice area and I'm looking for ideas. I have a loft that serves as a playroom, which I'm going to move my desk/CPU at. I was thinking about making it a craft room or a place for my workout equipment. I just don't know. Its such a dreary weird room, but I don't want the space to go to waste.....
How can I get Microsoft Office? I have to do a project for my Spanish class. Its pretty much a menu for our own restaurant. I have to finish it here at home today, but we used Microsoft Office Publisher(? I think?) and I don't have it here at home. I have Open Office, but I can't find a template that is like a menu. Is there any way i can get Microsoft Office, or can someone find a way to design a menu? I have to finish this tonight, so any help is greatly appreciated.

what is the best brand of lumbar support pillow to be used with home sofas/couches? The couch my wife and I have at home is aesthitically appealing, but very uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time. There are many different types of lumbar cushions/pillows that are sold but many of them are designed to be used in car seats and office chairs - but not designed for use with a home sofa. Can anyone recommend a good lumbar pillow/cushion to be used with a sofa at home to make it more comfortable and prevent back pain?
Can you work from home doing Web/Graphic Design? I am getting ready to go to community college to pursue a career in Web-Graphic design field. I want to know though, can I work from home doing this? I hear some people say they make around 50,000$ a year working from home and they have plenty of free time for themselves doing web design as a job. I'm already decent with editing html, and whatnot so I know I will learn even more advanced in the classes. But if I can't work from home doing it I'm not all that interested really. Basically I want a job working with computers, in some way shape or form, where I don't have to dish out so much of my time, or sit in an office doing nothing all day long. And again, I have heard people talk about on Yahoo Answers and online forums they are web designers and work from a laptop at their home computers and make a good amount of money, and with free time to do live and enjoy their lives. If anyone could tell me more about this field and line of work I would really appreciate it, before I start going to classes there. I plan with speaking to the school's counselor about it before starting, but I would really like to hear what some people have to say about it. And NO I am not at all talking about that scam stuff like the survey stuff. NOT THAT!!! I am actually going to school, college classes for this. Not using some scam place. I mean is it possible to work from home in WEB DESIGN. (just to make it clear)

Need ideas for marketing my Computer Programming & Website design skills.? I am self employed and do most of my work from my home office. I have two services to market. The first is a Website design service. The second Is a programming service...to just code to specs or assist in the design of an application and code to specs. I have particular talents (IBM COBOL focused, Visual Basic etc.). Why send the work offshore when I can do it from home? I'm looking for ideas on how to target market my services rather than just the shotgun approach. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My objective is to stay busy and keep marketing costs and labour to a minimum.
Thought about jazzing up your home/office with original art? Local Only Please (Chicago and Suburbs) To go to the store, and pick out pictures is no art at all. The idea of having a painter or artist come out to your home and create designs that work for your place and flavor sounds expensive. What if you didn't have to deal with either. Although by profession I am a real estate broker, my passion has always been in visual arts, and creation. The Deal: I want to build up a portfolio, and cover expenses. Willing to work with a small budget, but create big things that make your home/office blossom. Please let me know: mbilotas@yahoo.com
Decorating our home (& husband's feelings)? I'm bummed. We have a beautiful home and have purchased very nice pieces of furniture. I have been planning, coordinating & decorating- you know, the way wives do. Then, my husband pulls out all the (nicely) crap that he's accumulated throughout life. Toy trains, tiny sports & jet figurines, elementary school trophies, rubiks cube puzzles, plaques. And believe me, it's not real collectors items, rather things he showcased on his dusty dresser for years. He jokingly put them up on our new furniture, and I rolled my eyes and made him pack them away in a "sentimental keepsake box". Then returns with a new box of random stuff that I think he is halfway serious about displaying. I don't want to take away his identity, or hurt his feelings. I too have special things, but prefer to have grown up decor & office accessories on my desk. Home design usually limits small gadgety pieces. He's put me in a tough spot. How do I politely keep it looking nice? He's also very proud of high school woodshop projects. Don't get me wrong, the coffee table, bread bread box and desk he made show his talent, but they are nothing fancy. I feel like a horrible witch for not displaying them with our home decor. I'm no Martha Stewart, just a very simple Target decorator, but it is very tasteful. Again, I have many art projects I can't even believe I did, but there just isn't a place for it in our home...Is it sooo bad that I don't prefer to use the old sentimental stuff. I just love to decorate, it's what makes me tick! An old coffee table in oak just doesn't compliment or match our new furniture.
Is there a design failure in coffee carafes? It seems to happen both at home and the office. I appreciate your assistance in this matter. Mine seems to always drip on the counter top. It never did this when Bush was President. I am beginning to long for the olden days. Contard, I guess this is the last time I'll ask a serious question on Monday. Me M...Obviously you are a person of great intellect , insight and introspection. What we need here is a Coffee Carafe Czar.
Which Macbook is best for Graphic Design? I'm a graphic designer that wants to open an office at home for freelancing. Which Macbook is the best value for its money and the best for graphics? Anything else I need to buy that is a must besides the laptop?
Why IS it SO hard to Work from Home ? I have a great but very high pressured job project for the next 8 months. It is th emost intense I will EVER have to concentrate. Im lucky because if I get this software project done I will hav emoney saved up and be able tu pursue my dream of jewelry design. So I have a nice home office set up BUT i can not seem to concentrate at home. I end up do chores, playing with my pets, doing laundry, taking naps, masturbating, taking baths, pampering myself or goofing off reading news stories or posting silly questions on yahoo answers! When I take my laptop to panera's/borders wireless cafes I get SO much work done. Its crazy. Why can't I concentrate at home ? Should I just take my work and get out of the house every day ?
Develop a website on my PC & upload in office? I have installed Apache & Active Perl. I want to design & test a site at home without using internet & then upload it in my office server to work in intranet or internet. Can anyone suggest any ebook or website tutorials or some methods?
I am looking for a 3D interior design software.I know CAD can do that but it's hard to learn how to use it.? I am working on a project which requires me to redesign the hospital setting. I think a 3D interior design software will be a good aid in this case. I found one software called Sweet Home Design, but it doesn't have that many office modules plus the printout quality is not very good. Please help me out if you know any. I know photoshop or CS ... are good softwares, but it just takes forever for me to learn how to use them before i can use them. Thanks in advanced.

How do I submit my ideas to a greeting card business? I have been designing inspirational postcards, greeting cards, and pocket size inspiration cards. Now, I need customers. =-) Any ideas where to start? I am a single mother of three children and am working on no income. I do everything from my home office and basically need to know how I can jump in to the market on fixed resources. Any information or ideas would be very much appreciated! FYI: I do have my own online business at desertrosedesign.net which I pay for monthly. I am trying to drive traffic to my site, and having little luck there. Does anyone know where I can find a list of Greeting Card companies for free rather than paying the $50-$100 most places are charging for that list?
Can I write off the cost of gas commuting to work on my taxes? (edit)? Thanks for everyone that answered. Although the answers seem to be much varied, let me explain more in detail. I drive 120 miles to work and back a day, averaging about ~$250-300 in gas a month. Is there somewhere on the tax return form or some provision where I can write this off? I make enough from my web design 'job' at home to actually have to report it on my taxes, although I am currently disputing whether or not I should. (My brother takes projects on the side and outsources to me... no contract or anything... very casual). Obviously, my 'job' exists at home, for which I believe I am able to write off the cost of my computer, internet, phone, etc as long as it is used 100% for business purposes (which in my home office, I can argue it is). I also have a 9-5 that I commute to. Is there some way to justify my 'job' to job commute? From the response I got, I assume this is a write-off? Thanks!

I plan to continue my education as an Mechanical Engineer... so to get to the point i want to do some "free lance" jobs for customers. How do i get started??? I can invest in a sign, but not an office right now. I could try the "bargain book" i thinks its like 5 cents a letter or something....
If I don't get a 1099 for my web design freelance work, do I still have to file it online? I'm doing my taxes with taxcut online (hrblock). I've did freelance web design work and I've put down that I've used my home as a home office and that I used my computer as the place to do my freelancing on. Now I didn't get a 1099, but taxcut is asking for stuff on the 1099 that I don't have. Any help? I can barely or at all can keep up with receipts, so I don't know how much i made, but I can estimate in my head that I think made about $600 for the whole year.
Should I close my office now or not? I started doing graphic design and printing part time about 4 years ago from home, and from jan 2005 I started officialy to run it full time. I have been very positive about it and seeing further, and I started spending more that I was producing thinking that the money spet was gonna help me make more money. In this same process a year ago I hired a friend to teach him and train him with the vision of having another person without too much cost to my company. We were working from home, and in february I leased a beautiful office. Now I am nehind in my credit card payments and moth to month I am getting behind my payments I used some money that I got and I had to start giving my friend a part time job only. I know Iam gonna get in troubles for breaking the lease I have, but dont have the money to keep paying month to moth all that money. What should I do ?
Does anyone out there have an online interior design business? I'm curious about starting one, to run from my home, but not sure if it would work. I am a professional designer, but work for someone else currently. Have done work via email for several clients. For designers - is this something you have done? Did it work? Generate any income? For potential clients - would you hire an online designer for an "E-Consultation" for your home or office? I need to know if there is a market for this type of thing. Thanks!
How to continue using a MS XP Pro without activating the OS? I installed Microsoft XP Pro on my desktop PC , then i saw this message below that I only have 30 days to activate MS XP Pro but my desktop PC is not on-line, i only use it at home for graphical designs, MS Office works and sometimes for gaming. I hope anyone could tell me what to do to continue using it without fearing of OS malfunctions after that given period. Thanks!
HOME BUSINESS: Should I have my seamstress work in my home office? Is it smart/wise to buy my sewing equipment and have my seamstress work from my home rather than have her take my fabric and etc and create my designs from her house? In my opinion that just seems so risky because I have not established a trustworthy business relationship with her yet. HELP!!!!!
do i have to form a business entity? I've just started working as sort of a part-time contracter doing design work for a national firm. I plan on turning a room in my house into a home office, and purchasing a notebook to perform my work on (regular and exclusive use, etc.). Do I become a sole proprieter by simply filing a Schedule C on this year's tax return?
Should printers be turned off at night, or left on to reduce wear and tear? I have a friend who leaves his Laserjet print on all night in his home office, primarily because he believes that turning on and off the printer causes wear and tear on the printer's electronic parts. I have to hand it to him -- the thing is ancient (10+ years) and it runs like a charm, but even on standby mode, the printer is using up a lot of energy. I'm looking for hard facts that support either his point (he's an engineer) or mine that today's modern electronics are designed to be turned on/off regularly. I've done a pretty thorough search on why PC's should/shouldn't be turned on/off but have come across little on printers. (BTW, there's also little *research* done on the actual impact of turning on and off PCs).
Minimum Square Footage for Bathroom? I have a section of my backyard patio that we are considering enclosing and adding to the home as a home office. Ideally I'd like to put a bathroom in there so that our guests can use that after swimming. (rather than walking through the home). The section is a bit small (6'x21'). What is the minimum square footage required for a 1/2 bathroom (toilet/sink only) or for a bathroom (toilet/sink/stand-up shower)? Also, any recommendations for a free "design your own home"? California
How do we convince them that it looks like crap??? My bosses at work have rotten taste, I mean ROTTEN. They just bought a beautiful new building for us to relocate to nearby and it was previously an interior/home design studio (so you can imagine the beautiful arcitecture and design on the interior). They plan on using out current old ass desks, huge, dented filing cabinets and pretty much nothing matches. All of us girls have been trying to help make suggestions on how to place things in order for this place to flow and the more we suggest to more rediculous their ideas become. It looks like a huge garage sale in our beautiful new office! Help!
I need some design advice on my blinds? I am in the process of building my house. I am getting prices and ideas for my blinds and I am wondering what color blinds I should do. My home is a country wrap around porch, hickory kitchen cabinets and rustic trim. My doors are going to be white hollow core with a bead board look in them (Jeldwen, Sata Fe style), except the office door, it's in the entry way and kind of a focal point so it's going to be a double hung solid wood knotty alder door with windows in it. I am doing a rough sawn look for my base and case and I think I want to do white blinds. I am having trouble visualizing this. Will it look okay? I am going to have a lot of wood and neutral colors in my house so I kind of want to stay away from wood colored blinds. Any advice out there or any websites I can go to and see some photos of other windows and homes?? Also, I am looking cost effective. I don't want super expensive, but I want a good quality blind. I am fine with faux woods, but I don't want cheap crap either. The exterior of my house is a tan, almost gray siding with a ledgestone wainscot in various shade of tan and dark browns and grays, white trim, dark charcoal shutters and dark stained rough sawn timber porch posts
Anybody know Graphic Design? Can you help me out? Hello, my name is Brittany. I'm considering taking up a career in Graphic design. I was wondering if anyone knew the average yearly income for this field? And upon getting my degree would it be hard to find a job? What kinds of company's hire Graphic designers? Is it office hours? Or from home? Is it hard to find and hold onto a job in this career? Any Graphic designers out there willing to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know everything you know about being and becomeing a graphic designer. Thank you for your time.
Should I work at home? I've been a sole proprietor, website design, since 1997 at work at home. I want to double my revenue. To do this I could either double my hours or open an office and have some part-timers. I'd like to hear some opinions from those who have made similar transitions...was it worth it?...did you double your income but triple your hours and end up hating it? (I am not asking about incorporating...I am asking about quality of life of working at home vs. having an office.)
