How to build a house for cheaper...? I want to build a house in central ohio. Using a custom home builder to build a home on my land seems like it can be a little expensive. what are some of the cheapest ways to build a nice home? One that looks like any other around, NOT like adobe or anything. I've heard that open panel construction can be cheaper, but is their anything any cheaper? I want to build between a 5000 sf and a 5500 sf home. the plan I'm looking at is at the following website: http://www.eplans.com/house-plans.hwx/Q/Plan.HWEPL13418/searchId.128272061/offset.3 How much would it cost to build this plan, with possibly another 2 car garage, and a full walkout basement? For the interior fixtures and things like appliances and cabinets, I'm considering using Direct Buy, is this a good place to shop also, and what types of products do they offer, including construction ones? Thanks!

Is this house to expensive for us? I've been looking into a lot of homes recently, and one of the major website I've been using is ePlans. The website provides a ton of great floor-plans with pricing that seems very consistent. My only question is how much I can afford. I'm a cardiologist at my local hospital...but local really isn't really the past term. We're ranked as one of the best hospitals (within about a two hundred mile radius, or farther in some directions), so we get quite a bit of patients coming in. My salary is approximately $410,000, and my wife -- who happens to me a dermatologist -- makes approximately $265,000 (and this of course is after taxes). With the previous details, you know that our combined salary is about $675,000. Now, after talking to our Realtor, we know that we can afford a home a little over a million dollars. Although we trust our Realtor, we don't really want to go fumbling around with that high of house without a lot of extra advice. We've gone to multiple different consulting agencies and our Realtor proved positive -- we can afford a house of that price. What do you guys think? Can we? By the way, this is the house we're looking at: http://www.eplans.com/prairie_house-plans/HWEPL66353.hwx (the supposed "highest" price it would be is a little over 900 grand).
What's your opinion on this house? Do you like the exterior, layout, etc? http://www.eplans.com/country_house-plans/HWEPL65528.hwx
Rough Est on the cost of this house? http://www.eplans.com/farmhouse_house-plans/HWEPL07098.hwx Thanks
Would an orthodontist be able to afford this house? http://www.eplans.c om/italianate_ho use-plans/HWEP L10927.hwx I broke the link up so that you could copy it. Here it is again, unbroken. http://www.eplans.com/italianate_house-plans/HWEPL10927.hwx I'm just fantasizing, and I'm wondering if the average orthodontist, making $300,000-$350,000 per year would be able to buy that house. There are pictures on the bottom of the page. I would probably have the house made with nice materials like that. Thanks in advance. :)
I need help with this house....? I'm just wondering if it is possible to furnish this house (the price of electronics, decorations, curtains, beds and furniture altogether) at the cost of about 65,000 dollars. I mean like, ever room properly furnished with nice pieces. And how much would it cost to buy a house like this? And approximate at least. http://www.eplans.com/european_house-plans/HWEPL12500.hwx Please help, thanks.
Roughly how long would it take to build this house?....? http://www.eplans.com/french_country_house-plans/HWEPL57027.hwx We would have a large team of professional builders, plumbers and electricians etc. and we have already bought the land for it but we want to know roughly how long we'll be renting for... so how long would it take?
Who is the designer / architect of this house? We found this house plan, but can not figure out the architect. We'd like to try and find them, maybe to find more. The drawing of the front has a signature, looks like J. Blaylock or S. Blaylock or J.B. Laylock. I google all those names, but nothing. Help! http://www.eplans.com/country_house-plans/HWEPL67280.hwx Umm....I did that. The person I spoke with won't tell me because they want me to buy the plan from their company not the architect directly.
Could anyone take a stab at how much it would cost to build this house? http://www.eplans.com/farmhouse_house-plans/HWEPL07098.hwx Above is the link. It would be in the western portion of NC. I am looking for just a rough estimate. This is my fiance and my's dream house and we are in college but we are just curious. The materials would be custom ( mostly ) like cabinets and hardwoods. Excluding land and taxes. Does anyone have a guess. I have heard everything from 200k up to a million. Thanks!
How much would it cost to build this? (Estimated)? I know practically NOTHING in this area so please bear with me. Also, how does the different state/city affect the price? Thanks for your time :] Although for the area let's say southern California.

Where can I find some simple house floor plans? These are the ones I looked at already: eplans.com thehousedesigners.com houseplans.com COOLhouseplans.com houseplansandmore.com maddenhomedesign.com architecturalhouseplans.com planhouse.com globalhouseplans.com houseplanguys.com We are looking for a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bathrrom plan. I am looking for a 7-8 bedroom house plan online? We are going to build a house soon. I've been looking at house plans online but i can't find what I need. We have 3 kids and there is a chance that we will have custody of my 2 nieces and 2 nephews soon. I am looking for a 7-8 bedroom plan with all the bedrooms on the same floor. I have tried all the easy to find plans sites like coolhouseplans and eplans. I'm wondering if anyone knows an out of the way site that may be a little harder to find that may have what i need. Thanks! Yeah i know its alot. I'm not sure we will build that big but I want to see whats available. If we take custody of the kids, thats 7 kids for us to raise and i want ALOT of space! Chris- Thanks for all the info. We have considered an architect and that is possibly the way we might have to go. Due to the ages of the kids, even with 2 in a room for a couple of them, I still need 5 bedroom for them and 1 for us. and possibly a guest room. but that can be scrapped. The oldest 2 kids are both 14 and its 1 boy and 1 girl .They can't share a room and the youngest is 9 months. The 11 & 9 boys and the 9 & 8 girls are sharing rooms. We will figure something out. I just wanted ideas.

My husband and I have been looking at plans for a new home to build and we found 2 that we absolutely love and we have the money to pay for it pretty much whatever the cost. But we were curious as to what the cost to build this home would be in North West Oregon (pricey I know)? Any reasonable guesses would help! Thank you. price of building a garage.......? My husband and I are about to build a house, and we were wondering what the price difference would be between a car port and a garage. It is going to be a 2 car with a bonus room on top. Has anyone done this before, and how much did it cost you? Estimated building cost? I just got a new house and the model is online because I didn't design it myself, but I don't see building cost, and they started building, but different parts of the job are being done by different companies, so I don't have estimates. I have the link here, and I was hoping for a price estimate: http://www.eplans.com/mediterranean_house-plans/HWEPL63988.hwx
Which floor should the nursery be on? FIRST, this is kind of what our house looks like (to kind of give you an idea of what you're working with.) http://www.google.com/imgres?q=colonial+house+plans&um=1&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1138&bih=499&tbm=isch&tbnid=JSeGiHVlRFyTlM:&imgrefurl=http://www.eplans.com/colonial-house-plans/dutch.hwx&docid=Aw6hESVsqL0uzM&w=375&h=319&ei=Du5mTtikFcnFgAeckuXdDA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=181&vpy=124&dur=22&hovh=207&hovw=243&tx=153&ty=101&page=2&tbnh=155&tbnw=185&start=8&ndsp=8&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:8 On the main floor we have two bedrooms that are side-by-side, and in the larger bedroom on that floor is my and my husband's room. Then, on the second floor, there are two bedrooms and one bathroom. Since the ceilings are slanted in the rooms upstairs, our bedroom furniture doesn't fit because it's too tall, that's why we have our room downstairs right now. But, we weren't sure if we should move upstairs when the baby comes because the rooms up there are kind of bigger. Just something to think about. Any suggestions? ** and of course we want to be on the same floor as the baby. Thank you all in advance! (:
Queen Anne Victorian!? www.eplans.com/victorian-house-plans/queen-anne.hwx How much do you think it would cost to build this exact house from the ground up. Please don't just say "A lot" or childish things like that. This is my dream house and I honestly want to know. Even if it is just an estimate.
Would this be too expensive?...? I'm a cardiologist, I make around $700k per year and my wife is an anesthesiologist, so she makes about $500,000 a year. I researched home-buying techniques, and it said that you can afford a home twice your salary. So would that mean we can afford a $2,000,000 dollar home? We wouldn't EVER buy that big of a home, but we were just wondering. And this home, http://www.eplans.com/prairie_house-plans/HWEPL66353.hwx#, is worth $935,000, so could we afford this?
How much to build a 3000 sq ft home? this is a single story 3000 sq ft home on stilts on a wood foundation. the floor plan we found on eplans.com the house has 5 bedrooms 3.5 bath and the dementions are Width: 69 depth: 81. 3 car garage. just asume we say carpet everywhere with lanolium in kitchen and baths. we are looking to also add in the well and septic during construction. Please help!!! I live in Clovis California We already have 3 acres. No we havent bought any of the plans yet...... the plan we found is on www.eplans.com plan # HWEPL10902 although we want to build it on stilts! No permits have been pulled, we are just in our own planning stages. Thank you!
Any info on having a new home built for you? My husband & I are considering having a house built for us exactly the way we want it rather than just buying a home already on the market. We own a condo at the moment & are both in our 20's and young & doing good financially at the moment. We are not planning on doing this for quite some time, it was just an idea that jumped in our heads & we are planning on working & saving as much money as we can in order to make this dream of ours come true! We picked out a house that we really love on this website & want to know if anyone can estimate how much we should be planning on spending vs. just buying a house on the market. Also any other tips or info you are willing to share is great! Thanks so much I just wanna know what we are getting ourselves into before we make a final choice. Here is the house we are thinking of building thanks so much! We live in MA http://www.eplans.com/new_american_house-plans/HWEPL57980.hwx btw.. We know eplans has a find out how much this will cost option, however that will cost us $30 which seeing as we are not sure what we really want at this point it wouldn't make much sense to possibly need to do that multiple times.
Can someone help me with a project where I have to five prices for carpet, hardwood, tiles, etc. ? I could use a little help with any information on how I could find these prices, or where I could look, maybe. The assignment is to use a three bedroom house floor plan off eplans.com, which I've already found, and then we have to pick two carpet types for each bedroom, find their prices from two suppliers (including installation and carpet pad, and another price excluding installation, but not carpet pad) and then put hardwood floor in the living room and dining room, (including installation and excluding installation), and tile the bathroom and entry way (including installation and excluding installation). They we have to sheet rock the garage, again including and excluding. Any advice anyone can offer?
Is it weird that I...? Okay, so I was just wondering if anyone thinks it's weird that pretty much everyday I log onto www.eplans.com (a site that has a bunch of different house plans) and I look for houses. Not for me necessarily. Just for fun. Like I imagine that I live there, or that it's where I'll be when I grow up, and then I think of what I would do to the inside of the house. Is that normal? Should I stop? It's not like I'm a loner or anything either because I do hang out with my friends on a regular basis, I'm on JV track and I have a gpa of 4.0, and I'm a freshman in highschool. Is it weird that I am basically obsessed with house layouts? And tell me the honest truth. Don't try to not hurt my feelings. I just really want to know.

Old houses copy as new construction? As I went to Old Louisville in Kentucky. There is many huge old house built at before year 1900. Such as 1875 to 1895. Those house has 14 feet of heights ceiling on first floor. 12 feet ceiling on second floor, 10 feet ceiling on 3rd floor. The size is ranges from 4,000 square feet to 9,000 s.f. All brick on these houses. Some of them even has limestone as exteriors. The fire places are tall as 5 feets and 4 feets wide. The houses is like over 35 feet heights if you measure from foundation all the way to top of roof. Question I am asking is can I find any old houses floor plan that are similar to old louisville? I mean on line. I has been on dreamhomesource.com, coolhouseplans.com and eplans.com, none of those website has a floor plan that I am looking for. Is there a website I can look for it? I would love to built a new homes that are exact same as old homes. Not just old louisville, but boston too. I mean a huge house where wealthy people built and live in right after the civil wars. I mean real 14 feet ceiling on first floor, 12 on 2nd floor, 10 on 3rd floor. The real blue print of old house.

To Amarreta: I don't feel like paying for advice. I'm asking you guys, because this is for University +, so I thought you guys might know... To MOZ: We currently live in a $200k home, so nothing to special. We have relatively nice things, but they aren't top of the line. We have two kids, one two and the other just a few months, and we have a ton of excess cash rolling in. The nicest things we have are our cars, which are two Mercedes and a Ford.
