importing models in 3d studio max? well ive made a few good models in 3DS max9, but it was only a trial version. now that i got 3DS max6 with a stand alone license i wanted to open the models i made in version 9, but it seems they are not compatible with version 6. when i try to open them in version 6 it first shows a list of missing DLL's and asks to open anyway, i say yes and then it says it fails to load the model. im looking for a plugin or other software i can use to import models from 3ds max9 to 3ds max6. or if there is any other way to get it to load in 3DS max6. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

anyone know of any good free 3d modeling software that is similar to 3ds max? i tried a bunch of these free things and they didn'tt have what i needed. i want it to be free because im trying to create a detailed version of some drawings. if they have a .mdl file extension that is compatable with fate by wild tangent, that would be even better. but i dont think that is possible without official 3ds max 7.
Changing the reference points of a 3d model (3DS Max)? I'm not sure if "reference point" is the correct term, but I'm programming my first 3d game, and I want the 3d model's point of reference to be in the top left corner of the model rather than the center of the model. In other words, I want it set up so that if I place the 3d model in my game world at (0,0,0), the upper left portion is at that point, rather than the center. How can I achieve this inside 3ds Max? I tried simply moving the 3d model to the correct position on the axes in 3ds Max, but the exported model still used the dead center of the model as the point of reference. I'm very new to 3d modeling software, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think those instructions apply to the version I am working in, which is 3ds Max 2010.

3D Studio Max 9 Fur Help? Hi, i just started learning 3ds max before i go off to uni to do 3d modelling and animation, and was wondering if you lovely people can help. Since its a very easy thing to do, l like making a sphere and applying a fur preset to it, and make a quick animation of it moving about to show off and demonstrate what im doing ect. The problem is that the fur 'falls into' the sphere as if it isn't a solid object . I was wondering how to fix this as it makes the sphere get bald spots through the animation. I am used to this on inventor and now im useing 3ds max and i cant get used to the way it makes 3d models. Cany anyone tell me how i can create 2d sketches on 3ds max and be able to extrude it to make it 3d?
