Are you experienced in interior design??
Im seventeen and I want to work in interior design as a part time job. I love to decorate, and when i walk into an empty room i see endless possibilities. I do believe I have the talent to design.. Im starting on my first project next week, a teenage bedroom. But im having a bit of trouble on how to start off. How do I get organized and how do I plan it out? I dont want to get stuck along the way or do things in a rush because i left something out and I have to go back and do it at the last minute; I want to have it all planned out. What tips can you give me about interior design in general, and also on how to plan my design out? THANK YOu so MuCH!!

- Hello I have a site on interior design and carpentry check it out its http://www.carpentrypages.com
- Some ideas: http://interiordec.about.com/od/articlesonbasics/a/decoratingdonts.htm http://www.decor8.blogspot.com/ http://theinspiredroom.wordpress.com/ http://myinteriordecorator.com/ http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-decorating-tips1.htm Read the links these sites recommend, also. Start off with a divided folder or loose-leaf book with dividers. Make sections for * what the client wants - does he have any samples or images * what the budget is * measurements and existing features in the room to deal with * determine what is available locally for you to work with - visit shops that deal strictly "to the trade" which means they sell to professional decorators only. Create your own schedule and an estimated time line to be sure all aspects come together at the right times. Make sure your sub-contractors are people you can trust. Be sure to budget your own salary. You're not doing this for free. Most decorators work for a percentage of the whole budget - like 10% - 20%. Get everything in writing. Try not to end up like lots of people with a degree or certificate in decorating - they work at the corner furniture store following the customers around and fluffing the pillows after you sit on the sofa.
- If you are doing a presentation, or an actual room? Somehow, I'm thinking you are doing a presentation. You'll need to draw your room to scale on graph paper, including windows, doors, closets, height of ceiling, etc. You should include elecrical outlets, AC/heat vents, etc. You'll need to make sure your furniture fits into the space. You should draw it to scale on the graph paper. Provide pictures of the furnishings. Have samples of fabrics, paint color, wallpaper, floor coverings, etc. Most designers have everything attached to a big board, and they have it labeled. Don't forget architectural details such as crown moldings, baseboards, etc. If there is a different paint color or finish, you'll need to indicate this. Mark on the graph paper where accessories will be placed and provide photos or pictures. I've seen this type of presentation rendered on HGTV. I'm sure you could find some good tips on their website. Good luck with your project.
