interior design project!? help!?

I have to price out carpeting for the floor of my bedroom for a project and i was wondering if anyone knows how to fidn the area if the the length is 15'5'' by 11'1''. i know you do the length x w, but does it work like that when your multiplying inches with feet. like this: 15.5 x 11.1. sorry if this is a silly question, but im terrible with measurements, and i guess with area also.

1. just multiply them like you said so 15.5 times 11.1 = 170.5
2. I dont think doing it like 15.5 would work, cuz then it would be 15 and a half feet, but half a foot is 6 inches not 5. Id just convert it all into inches and then do the math, then convert it back to feet.
