Interior design?
I want to be an interior designer, things like night clubs. Do you get a degree in interior design and are there any interior design schools. I am in 11th grade and a little bit confused about this

- It's very difficult to break into the interior design field in a job as popular as night club design. You do have to have a degree, preferrably from a FIDER accredited college. Google ASID and IIDA for some really good information on this field. They are both professional organizations that you can choose to become a part of once you are a college student in an interior design program or a proffessional designer. Just remember that there is a common miconception that interior designers are no more than decorators with a degree. First, you have to have a degree to call yourself an interior designer. Decorators can be anyone, degree or not. Training in interior design is more than colors and patterns and visually cool spaces. The training you will recieve is usually very heavily architecture based. You will use computer programs such as AutoCAD and Photoshop. If you have these programs available to you at your high-school, take as many of them as you can. This also goes for construction classes. Designing night clubs, resorts, casinos, and other cool spaces is a really sought after field in interior design. If you can, also take psychology classes. A lot of designing spaces people live, work, and play in has to do with their perceptions and experiences. Last, good luck in the future, and get as much experience in the field as you can doing summer internships and volunteering at any architecture or interior design firm that will let you. Good luck! It is a rewarding career!
- I am a semester away from graduating with a bachelors in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design in Chicago. The ID field is booming (thanks and no thanks to HGTV). I would suggest visiting an ID school to see what it is all about. The work is hard and time consuming but it is also a blast and so personally rewarding. You get to see things you thought of in your head being built! It is amazing. One thing you might want to do while still in High School would be to take a drafting class and a CAD class. We draft either by hand or on the computer EVERY DAY! If you don't like drafting, sorry. Once you are in an ID program you will get to try out different projects to decide which kind of Interior Design would be the best for you. Maybe it will still be Night Clubs, but maybe it won't. School lets you try everything before you have to decide in the real world. Good luck!
