interior design help!!!?
I'm now shopping for window treatments in the living room, but don't know what color to shop for that will enhances the room. our living room and the kitchen is one room separated by an island and the flooring. the living room area is a beige color carpet and the kitchen is tile in the color of different shade of beige. the wood cabinet in the kitchen is a cross between an oak/walnut stain. with granite countertop. also some shade of beige with black dots and gray. We have a leather corner sectional in the color cream. I know it's kind of confusing without pictures, but i kinda feel that the window treatment should not be another color of beige or cream. what color should I get for the roller shade that will end up behind one corner of the sectional? our wall is eggshell white. btw, I was aiming for a modern contemporary look for the room, but kind of sophisticated.

- At your local hardware they will have a pallete of different colours and shades.
- Rust would work or burgundy or green or gold. Actually, your so neutral now almost any color would be good.
- with that description i think you can not go wrong with brown or terra colors...... look in magazines thats the best place to get ideas.... http://www.fordwindowtreatments.com/images/draperies.gif or http://www.ruffellbrown.com/images/draperyhardware_image6.jpg
- i suggest a bright bold pop of color.. but that's just me. the way things are going in your house, i have to assume you like the more earthy natural neutral tones.. so a chocolate brown would be perfect.. it'd give great contrast to the walls and furniture, and tie in the dark granite countertop in the kitchen. also, it would be a great neutral as well. also, what height will you be hanging these? and do you have crown moulding or any moulding? i suggest to go as high as you can go, as they will definitely enhance the space, visually making the room appear taller/grander (if it's standard 8-9 foot ceiling and standard size.) if you have 10+ foot ceilings, hang them so that a pair of 96" panels graze the floor. you also don't want them to puddle (crinkle like pants) too much, unless you like that look.. it's typically done in more formal homes or spaces, and they can cause a lot of dust to get trapped under the puddles, so if you have kids/pets, i'd suggest the simple straight to the floor. and to have a contemporary but sophisticated look, please for the love of god, do not put valances or window boxes! that is a very traditional and outdated look (some places can pull it off if done well enough).. keep it clean & simple: normal rod pocket or regular flat w/rings is more than fine. for the roller shade, i suggest a few shades lighter than the chocolate brown (some call it flax or taupe.. although some taupes can appear a little goldy depending on the company), so there's a distinction between the drapery panel and the wall. good luck!
