What makes a great landscape design? i really want to become a landscape architect.?

I have seen a lot of designs, but don't know what makes one stand out above the rest.

1. I think it is the same principles that operate in good interior design. The design takes little maintainence to maintain, it suits the life and lifestyle of the home's occupants, and it rises up to meet you. By that I mean, it goes above and beyond expectation, keeps interest, has unexpected elements, reflects who lives there and what is important to them and utilizes a wide variety of media which all works together to create an environment which brings peace, serenity and happiness to those who dwell there that is shared with all of those who see it.
2. Enroll in a good agriculture type college. NMSU is one if not the best college for agriculture/landscape design type of education.
3. Hi: I am a landscape and designer. The key to any landscape design is to be able to visualize what a client wants. When you are professionally designing for some one elses investment, it is very important to be able to idenitfy the needs of the people as well as knowledge of plant specimens. I have seen many designers put thirty plants in one landscape area - not thinking about the maturity of each plant specimen. Designers have to know the plants as well as being able to properly place the trees, shrubs and flowers. I personally like to use different colors with a variety of textures. Most people today want low maintenance plants so this is also a key when designing. Ornamental shrubs are becoming very popular as well as container gardening. A design that stands out from the rest is individually taylored for a certain client. There are thousands of good looking designs out on the web as well as in businesses around the world.
