Is taking an online Interior Design certificate course good enough?

I don't have time to go to school; I'm a stay at home mom. Would taking an online Interior Design/Decorating diploma or certificate program as ligit as going to school to get a degree and can I use it for jobs and such?

  1. We've used people on our projects who have an online certificate. At first, you won't be paid as much as someone who has their degree in interior design, however. What you are really looking to do is build your portfolio with projects over time. In some states, the law will prohibit you from calling yourself an interior designer without a BS or BA. You will be able to use it on your resume, but will need to focus more on your portfolio. Good luck, you will find that it is a rewarding career both personally and professionally.
  2. You can get a full bachelors totally online in interior design. I am also a stay a home mom and I will graduate next fall with my bachelors of science through the Art Institute Online which is a division of the Art Institute of Pittsburg, a fully accredited school. I love it, it is super flexible and has worked really well for me. It is expensive though. They also offer a residential planning certificate which you can get on your way to a bachelors so you have something to show for your schoolwork if you want to enter the workforce sooner.
