What should I consider when setting up a home office?

This includes stuff about the location, what computer supplies,any sites I should go to, free advertising, consultants,and escpecially, what computer(s), scanner(s), or camera(s)? Im creating a computer game design business called P&K Tech. with a partner. Although this is a computer game business any home office tips are welcome. 1. I don't have my own company, but I do work from home. You definitly need a quiet space-with a door. It's easy to get distracted. I would sign up with Staples for your supplies-anything over 50.00 is free shipping. Very conveinent.
2. first thing is getting your internet setup. after that setup computer. save yourself some headache and get an all-in-one printer. these usually have fax/scanner/print/copy functions that save you from having to buy all of them as individual peripherals. make sure your main comp is a desktop, not a laptop. just works out better that way. back up frequently. headset might be useful too. as far as location pick a point between the bathroom and kitchen and you're set.
3. If you will be taking deductions on your taxes be sure to follow IRS guidelines. There are some requirements to prove that you have a legitimate home office. E.D.
4. You'll get lots of answers...here's a tricky one people don't think about... This applies if you are planning to depreciate some percentage of your home as an office. If you do this in the year you purchase or sell the house you must pay recapture on that portion of the house. My advice...before you spend money on ANYTHING. First get yourself thinking that the money you are about to spend is your LAST $. If you don't absolutely NEED it...DON'T BUY IT.
5. You want to start a computer game design business and you're asking a question about computer supplies, scanner, camera? You should not go into a business that you have no clue about. And if you plan to deduct any expenses (like a home office), be prepared to either show profit or be audited by uncle sam.
