Where can I find super insulated home designs?
I want to build a super insulated kennel/barn/shop/office building using elements of passive solar design and any other energy efficient design elements. The kennel/stable requirements lead me to think that the slab on grade structure should probably have concrete walls for at least the first four feet.

- I am a 100% supporter of ICF.Using a wall/footer design you can then backfill to subgrade and use hot water heat in floor. There are kits where you can use a hot water heater for heating. I have a friend that built a house using ICF and he said you would not believe the energy savings. My Best
- You should contact architects and builders of energy efficient buildings. Your building is a specialty item which will not be found on any web site. A lot depends on where in the country you are located. Super insulated may not be the answer, because of cost. Do a Yahoo! search with the term "super insulated homes." You will find a whole assortment of web sites. Concrete floor slabs can be insulated from below. It is not clear to me if you want concrete above or below the floor slab. If the ground in your area freezes in winter, you have to put footings below the 100 year frost line. It is also a building code item.
- go to Runnings
- Styrofoam block and use e-beerier from Sherwin Williams theweekendpainter.com
