- Check your local library for books or magazines offering plans
- The problem with internet-based plans, or generic plans from a book, is that they may not meet code in your area. If you find a plan you like, get a structural engineer to look at it. Chances are, that even if the plan doesn't meet your code, as drawn, it can be modified to comply. I had a customer, a few years ago, who wanted to build this great looking contemporary on a hilltop lot. The lot was in central MA, on the site of a defunct local ski slope. The plans came from the southwest and featured lots of glass, even on part of the roof. We reduced the glass area, beefed up the joist sizes and added lots of insulating materials. The point is, you can do it, just be careful. Good luck
- GO TO HOME DEPOT, LOWES, CARTER LUMBER, OR 84 LUMBER.
- Have you tried doing a web search for your topic? We bought our plans through a website and we are very happy with them. However, I wouldn't think that you'll get good plans for free.
