  1. Contact your local council planning office.
  2. go to ur local council they will give u information on wot u need planning permission for and building regulations. extensions i think u still need planning permission for and tree houses u do need cos if u live in a neighbourhood where neighbours overlook ur garden they can oppose to the planning and building of that tree house

  4. all of the answers are correct above me, to contact local council, it may even get more hairier if you are located in a historical district, in which you are going to have to show very detailed information if you are "adding" on to your house. If a tree house, they may deny the petition (if you are in historical district). But like everyone has said, you just have to contact your local council at city hall and they should be able to give you information probably over the phone to let you know what you can or can't do without their approval. Best of luck. I've had to go through the "hysterical" society (as me and my neighbors call them) with my plans, I was adding on the rear of my house.
  5. Without Planning Permission......more or less anything inside that does not show or extend on the outside, particularly on the front elevation. A window or velux rooflight is OK. If you live in a detached house or semi you are allowed to build 70 cubic metres (not square metres) on the rear, if more than 4 metres high it should be minimum 2 metres from any boundary, and it should not extend above the ridge of the house e.g. a high dormer. In a terrace house just the same but 50 cubic metres. These cubic measurements must include the roof void in the calculations. A tree house.......each Local authority has its own rules, in some cases they can call a tree house or a large 'wendy' house a dwelling !!! If very near a boundary it would be frowned upon due to neighbours potentially losing their privacy. Virtually everything will need Building Regulation Approval.
  6. contact your local building control office first as they are very helpful. it will save you so many problems further along the line.
  7. It's easy. Firstly get a surveyor to draw a plan of your proposed extention, submit same to your local authority planning dept. then wait. That's the hard bit.
