Air Conditioning Not Cooling House?
My A/C stopped cooling the house yesterday. No matter how low we set it, it is almost 90 degrees in the house. There is somewhat cool air coming out the vents but it's not as cold as it has been and it's not coming out very strong. Do you think it's a filter problem? I do need to change the filter and plan to do it today. I am hoping that fixes it. If not, any other ideas? I hope I don't have to pay for a service call. Update: It seems the motor on the inside unit is one but the one outside isn't running and now I don't think any air is coming out at all.

- We had something similar happen. We needed freon. Might try having someone come out to do it.
- Filter is a possibility. Also, if coils ice-up, you lose coolng power - but then you have to figure out why the coils iced-up. When was the last time you had the refrigerant level checked? (Refrigerant used to be freon, but I don't think they use that anymore - some name like Puron now)
- I think you may have to have the thermostat checked as it is most likely telling the unit it's cool enough inside.
- Sounds as if your coils are icing up. Turn the thermostat to off and the fan switch to on. let it run a couple hours to thaw the coils out. You should feel more air flow as it thaws. Change the filters as you said. That needs to be done every 30 days unless you have an extremely dust free house. Once they are thawed, look at the coils and see if they need cleaning. I would leave the filters out during this process as they are likely to get wet from the thawing coils. If they look good, replace the filter and turn it on and see how it goes. if it ices up again you are low on refrigerant.
