Pros and Cons of Split Level House?

What are some pros and cons of building and owning a Split Level house such as this one http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/split-level-house-plan-9284vs.asp If you were to build a Split Level house, would this be cheaper than a bungalow or two storey of the same square footage? Or something like this http://www.architecturaldesigns.com/split-level-house-plan-3600dk.asp I also don't like the stairs right in the entrance, so I would not get a split level that was like that. More something along these lines.

1. Disadvantage is if you want to get in the house (front door) you have to use stairs. Another disadvantage with this plan for me would be having the 2 bedrooms on the lower level away from the Master. I want my kids to be close to me..at least in the same hallway. I personally don't like split levels.
2. If you stay there till you get old the stairs will be a problem. Also you might have to have two vacuums. Hauling laundry up or down stairs. (like a 2 story house) Also find out what the resale effect is.
