Getting rid of squirrels from an attic (u.k.) roof problem.?

My husbands Gran has had her attic in her bungalow invaded by squirrels. They are getting in through her roof and chewing the insulation etc. We plan to block their entrance but are unsure if we can as the roof is this kind with the waved edge http://tinypic.com/4duh5eac And where the tiles meet the guttering there is a grill where the tile curves and that is where they are getting in. This grill is on every edge tile all the way round the house and we are not sure what is the best and most cost effective way to block it. Also can we block it or is it for ventilation? We have been told that moth balls are probably the best thing to discourage the squirrels is this true or is there something else you can reccommend?
