Turning a bungalow into a house ?

i have a bungalow it was built 17 years ago (planning permission aside) are the foundations the same for a house as a bungalow ? can i just add the upstairs on the existing walls?

  1. VERY MUCH DOUBT IT NOT SUBSTANTIAL ENOUGH FOR THE EXTRA LOAD FOOTINGS WILL NEED TO BE INCREASED ETC ETC
  2. if you are intending to convert attic it should be okay .if you are leaving the roof alone, and just putting in roof lights, but if you intend to add another level no. you would need to get a structural engineer to assess what you would need in the way of steel beams and load baring walls
  3. Depends largely on original foundations but in most cases yes, the actual weight per squire feet applied to the footings would not increase greatly, especially if using lightweight thermal blocks, the load being spread out across the building, the most direct force in terms of weight on most buildings is the roof itself, would need planning and building regs consent of course (depending on where you are)
