Architectural Designs

getting into an architecture school?

I am a junior in highschool and want to be an architect when i graduate. I have no idea what classes to take to help me with my decision. I am in Algebra 2 this semester. So next semester i can take another math class and two my senior year. I am thinking of taking the architectural design class, what other classes should i take to help me with my decision?

  1. It's been quite some time since I've been in high school, but I took Algebra 2 and Geometry during my sophmore year. Junior year was Trigonometry and Physics and Calculus in my senior year. The very least you need is Calculus to be accepted into architecture programs. Most programs will allow you to take whatever class you're deficient during the summer prior to your first semester. There really isn't any classes you can take in high school that will help you get into an architectural program. What you really need to do is to get your GPA and SAT score as high as possible. They will also want someone who is well rounded, so any volunteer work or after school activities are always helpful.
  2. First, it should be noted that no one graduates as an architect- it takes a number of years of experience working in the field before you can get licensed (then you can legally call yourself an architect). As far as your question goes, the previous answer is good as far as math and science goes, but it's also a good idea to learn a lot about art since all the arts are related and creativity is a key component of architecture. If you haven't had it yet, I'd also recommend geography to learn about places and how other cultures live and build their environments. History is also good to study, for similar reasons. Good luck!
