What people do for a career...?

I have had alot of strange reactions when I tell people what I do for a living..... I would like you to imagine the situation... Your single, in a night club or out some where and a bloke (or woman) comes up to you. You start talking just general conversation when you ask..."So, what do you do for a living?" They answer "I'm a draftsperson" ***A draftsperson is a person who draws sketches, plans, or designs. EG: house design, mechanical design, landscape design etc.*** My question is: How would you react to this answer? What would you be thinking when someone tells you "I'm a draftsperson"? Would you try and change the topic quickly or would you genuinely be interesting in hearing about the details of his or her work? Does being a draftsperson even sound like interesting work? Do you get a stereotypical view of the person as being "a nerd" or "geek"? If you are a draftsperson... what do you honestly think of your job? The answers you give will be going into my report for TAFE (education purposes). Thankyou for your help.

1. Dan, I will copy and paste - it might be easier fo your purposes. You should also be aware that different age groups will have entirely different responses to these questions. A twenty year old girl would NOT feel the same way I do about draftspersons. How would you react to this answer? With interest, curiosity and questions. What would you be thinking when someone tells you "I'm a draftsperson"? Cool, I don't know any draftspersons. Would you try and change the topic quickly or would you genuinely be interesting in hearing about the details of his or her work? Genuinely interested. Does being a draftsperson even sound like interesting work? Yes and no, I would think it could become tedious (but then even the most exciting careers are repetitive aren't they?) after thirty years. Do you get a stereotypical view of the person as being "a nerd" or "geek"? No, not at all. I would think him serious but creative. If you are a draftsperson... what do you honestly think of your job? Nope, can't help you on this one. Don't you just hate the TAFE communications subjects??
