  1. First of all, you need to educate yourself with the profession and it's associations. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) do not license individuals or entities. The AIA is a professional organization who promotes the practice of architecture and provides different tools to aid the architectural practice. Licensed architects only need to pay a fee to become a member. You should ask him/her about what the profession entails. Have him talk about the negative aspect of the profession. You should reserve your questions about architectural education for the instructors of schools you plan to apply to. Talk to him about the long hours and low pay, ask him about the ARE and the relatively low passing rate.
