Against Obama's tax plan, are they being greedy?

I would like to know why people who make "good money" are against paying higher taxes. If I had reach a certain level of "comfort" I would not mind paying higher taxes to help those in need. There are a lot of people that cannot afford medical bills because insurance is not only too costly but does not cover everything. I know a business owner who is against Obama's tax plan because he refuses to pay higher taxes even though he happens to have 4 luxury cars 2 homes and 1 vacation house. So I guess he rather have people dying unable to pay their medical bills rather then him helping his fellow Americans by paying higher taxes. Now that I do think is "unpatriotic". In my opinion I believe that just like it is your job to be a good neighbor, it should be your job to be a good American. Please give me your opinion, I am a grown woman so I don't need any insults I am just stating my opinion and I would not mind to hear your side. To repeat the question; Are they being greedy? JOHN, If I could anything to give, I would. I have accepted non-profit jobs where I get paid very little over other opportunities offered. Also, if you want to mention a quote from our founding fathers, here is another from Thomas Jefferson; To the corruptions of Christianity I am, indeed, opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian in the only sense in which he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines in preference to all others..." As for you CAPTAINS, how would you feel if you son or daughter was very sick and you were unable to keep up with the medical bills, how would you like it if someone told you "go figure it out we can't help you"? Unfortunately James, you are wrong on the health care for children. My daughter was without healthcare because it was too costly for me. I know what it is to struggle, I was'nt poor enough to get free help and I was'nt paid enough to afford it.

  1. Then give. Then use charitable organizations. Govenment shall keep there hands off. "that government is best which governs the least," what does "least" mean? It means that government should be rigidly limited to those functions that only the government can perform. Otherwise government will inevitably expand until it runs everything. That is why Thomas Jefferson described "a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouths of labor the bread it has earned."
  2. Maybe it's because they already pay the highest taxes in the free world. The greedy ones are the socialist democrats who want to steal this money from people who earned it and then give it to people who don't deserve it (a form of buying votes- that is the democrat party). It's the democrat party that is greedy for power. The sad thing is that they don't know what to do with the power once they have it but to destroy the country.
  3. Yes, they're being greedy. Rich people get rich and stay rich by being greedy. It becomes an obsession.
  4. You can spend your money any way you want, but no one should have the right to tell me how to spend mine.
  5. I will make this as short as possible. 1. Nobody would call me greedy. I donate 20-25% of my income annually to charity, so my opposition to Obama's socialism has nothing to do with greed. 2. 100% of our government programs are VERY wasteful and filled with corruption. I hate pouring money into bottomless pits. 3. Obama's plan would not work. Increasing taxes costs jobs, increases inflation, and reduces federal revenue in the long run. You cannot increase taxes and increase spending during a recession and expect it to work. The ONLY plan is to cut taxes and cut spending. 4. Government programs are also designed to keep the poor dependent on the government nipple. These programs give just enough for people to "get by" and punish those who try to improve their situation. There is no motivation to strive for a better life. 5. When you can drive through the poorest urban areas in this country and see kids with Air Jordans, cell phones, IPODs, and portable video games, you must know that poor choices are being made. 6. Almost 100% of those who are not currently covered by government assistance now could get insurance if they did not have 3 cars, an RV, a boat, $100/month cable television, cell phones for every member of their family plus a landline....the list goes on and on. And then they want a low deductable to boot. I lowered my insurance costs by almost 75% by taking my deductable from $1000 to $5000. I added a Health Savings Account and I am WAY ahead. The reality is the that most people who have no health insurance make poor choices and put wants ahead of needs. We do not have any clue what poverty is in this country. I do not oppose helping people in need. I do oppose having large portions of what I sacrifices and saved to get taken away to provide for those who could provide for themselves, and in programs which are corrupt and wasteful.
  6. The top 20% pays like 80% of taxes and the top 1% alone pays 30% of taxes. Obama's "tax cuts" give more money "back" to people who DON'T PAY INCOME TAX than to hardworking Americans who could use a tax cut. Kids can get free health insurance from the government. but the people Obama want's to give more money to are so lazy that most don't get up and spend an hour to sign the required papers. If people want health insurance for their children, with very few exceptions (like being an illegal immigrant) the can get it.
  7. They don't want to pay taxes because they are Greedy, Selfish & Tight with their money. You are on to somethinmg here!
  8. Why should i pay more "income tax" to bailout those who don't even have an income?
  9. Because the system is broken. I do not mind people that are Truly in need. Take a good look at California (can you say "Blue State") they are ruined by all of the social programs, some $7 billion on welfare, $10 billion on medicaid another $11 billion on illegal aliens alone! What is wrong with this picture people? I do not owe any of you a damn thing and I ask nothing from you. I want to put my children through college not some illegal alien's. I have read Barry's tax plan and he is lying when he says he will not raise the tax on the middle-class. He has proposed so many new programs that he will not have the funds to do it unless he raises the taxes on the middle-class. Companies in the USA already pay some of the highest tax in the world. When you raise the tax on the businesses it causes unemployment and the companies just pass on the tax to the consumer in most cases. Get a grip people. Who do all of you think create jobs? Duh, I think that would be businesses, small and large. Get off this the "Rich" are the problem crap. They provide the jobs people. Who do most of you work for? Are you part of this world? I work for a company!!!! I do not want them to be taxed out of Business and then I am out of a job.
  10. Robert - if only it were that easy. If charities were large enough and rich enough to cover everyone needs and did so, we would not need the government to step in and our taxes could go down. Unfortunately that is not the case. The excuse that everyone who needs help is just lazy is so completely false it is offensive, I have neighbors who work 3 jobs, working over 100 hours every week, but a close to minimum wage with no benefits, they cannot afford medical care for thier children, and no charities I know pay for that. Sure Shriners pays for serious medical issues, but what about when your kid is running a fever over 103? A 15 min Dr visit can easily run over $100 bucks that is alot of money if your poor. I am all for paying more in taxes, I a middle class, however I appreciate that my taxes can go to worthy causes, not all of it, but some. I am happy paying for roads, healthcare, public lands (to hunt an fish on), police and military, etc. Taxes in the US are some of the lowest in the industrialized world.
  11. 4 cars and 3 houses? Who produced all of those products? Did they get a paycheck for it? Could they have paid for medical insurance with some of the money they made?
  12. Then give to charity. I want to help people and do but the government's job is not to force me to do it and decide where my money goes.
  13. It's simple. Most of the people who are complaining saying they don't want to pay a little more are those who have been making "good money" as in $250,00 + for quite a long time. Many were born into money and don't have an idea what it's like living on a yearly income of under $15,000. It's not fun, it's not easy. Most of those who have $250,000 + have health insurance so they are not struggling trying to get their medication and stay alive to see another day. Coming from parents who had to live paycheck to paycheck, not currently having any health insurance and barely being able to afford food these days...if I had the chance to make $250,000 + I would have no problem paying a little extra to help those in need. Why? Because I would know what it's like, I would have been there in their shoes at one point. And by those in NEED I don't mean illegal immigrants, or welfare queens collecting all the freebies they can get their hands on because it's eaiser to get a check from the government then work like a regular person. Not everyone out here is taking advantage of the system, and for those people who are trying their best but need a little extra lift...we should give it to them with hope that god forbid those who make $250,000 ever need help one day....those who were once getting that extra lift will turn around and give the EXACT same help.
  14. You asked me to answer your question, so here I am... You cannot lump everyone from that income range together and ask "are they being greedy"... Everyone's situation is quite different, even at that income level. You gave your example about the guy with many cars and so forth. I have an example for you that is of an actual family that I know: Family of five. Four girls, one boy. Family makes over $250000. Five mouths to feed, five bodies to clothe, vehicles and gas to take five children and parents to where ever they need to be every day, doctor bills for addressing/maintaining health of five children and two parents, four weddings to save for in the future and hopes of helping out five children with tuition when they attend college in the future, while at the same time, parents planning for their own retirement. This family does not do "extravagant" things like, heaven forbid, take a vaction. They do not have the money. They do not have the money for a lot of "extras" that you think they might, because you judge them strictly by their income level. Without a doubt, there are things I have forgotten to mention here, but I'm sure you get the picture, you seem bright enough. Even at this income level, income is tightly budgeted to make sure that the family only takes on what they can actually afford. Forcing this person to pay more taxes, when they ALREADY pay more than you, so that people in a lower tax bracket can get get some "free money" is not fair, and there is NOTHING you could present me with to make me see it otherwise. These two parents are college educated and used their own money to get through school. They planned for everything they have. It is not their fault that some people aren't good planners and may be in way over their heads. This family DOES NOT HAVE EXTRA MONEY to give for more taxes. What is it exactly that you think they owe you or anyone else in this country? A car? Two cars? Their house? Their healthcare for their family? What? How much money do you want from them and when will it ever be enough? You'll dislike me for saying this, but I believe that a lot of the people at the lower end of the bracket who will be receiving this "free money" from an obama administration are losers. Pot smokers, drinkers, addicts and so forth that do other things with the little money they do have. Their poor judgement & decision making skills are not MY fault, nor anyone elses, no matter how much money they make. I also realize that I cannot lump all of the people at this end of the spectrum together either, because there are those who genuinely try, but just seem to never get a break. Bottom line is that you can't "lump" everyone from either side of the income spectrum together. EVERY FAMILY IS DIFFERENT on both ends. That is why I don't understand why so many people think it's OK to raise anyone's taxes just to pass out money at the other end.
