Can anyone tell me where I can find the blueprints to construct a mobile home. From a simple design to home.?
I would like to attempt to construct my own mobile home, dimensions15 feet wide x 70-75 length. I am looking for materials that are used in such and design plans that give me ideas.

- Mobile homes are no longer produced. It is a term that was expired when national standards were created for the construction of these homes. The name is Manufactured Homes. Manufactured Homes, much like RVs (and many are constructed by the same firms) are not meant as stick in place homes. Rather, parts are purchased from outsourcing companies and assembled on an assembly line. They are shipped to Manufactured Home resellers whom you can purchase them from. They are rather inexpensive. If you'd like to construct your own home, you can either purchase a kit or the blue prints. Many are for sale. But, none are for Manufactured homes as that would be the equivalent of Fleetwood giving you the manufacturing specifications to one of their Motorhomes.
- In theory its possible. Is it practical though? Not likely. I owned a warranty service business before retiring, so I've been all over mobile/manufactured homes, making repairs. I believe there are some things you haven't considered. All homes, whether portable, or stick built, must meet certain building codes. With manufactured homes, this starts with an APPROVED set of plans. The manufactured home industry cannot just build willy-nilly, they have to submit plans for approval, showing they will be sound in engineering, and so on. If you build a mobile home yourself, you also will need to get the home inspected and approved, before you could live in it. The industry standards for mobile homes are 12 ft wide, 14 ft wide, and 16 ft wide. If you bought a used steel frame, you could use one made for a 16ft wide, and build out to only 15 ft, but you could not use a 12, or 14 ft frame, to make a 15ft wide home. It is very easy to find old 12 ft frames. 14 and 16 foot frames can be found with some searching. Homes get destroyed, by storms, fire, etc....so you can get the steel frame. I know some of them get turned into farm wagons. (Many states are restricting the use of the standard 'doughnut' wheel). The steel frame would be the most difficult piece to manufacture, so were this my project, I'd find a used frame. By the way, the roof overhang, and hitch tongue are included in the overall dimensions. Do you realize - that with the cost of building materials, this would be very much like trying to build a car, or truck from scratch? It's going to cost you more in material, than buying a used home would cost. It would be cheaper to buy an old junker, and remodel it, than to try to build one from scratch - and depending on how much remodeling needs to be done, it could be cheaper, especially right now, to find a good quality used home, where all you would need to do is cosmetic work (paint, etc). You can pick up floor plans at any dealership, but they are 'general' and not specific. That might help you get an idea for the layout you want though. I would recommend that you go shopping. Look at the new homes, and find a dealer of used homes. Ask lots of questions. This will help you get a better idea of what you need to do. If the goal is to get a home for as little money as possible, goto a tax, or foreclosure auction. Seriously. If the goal is to get a customized layout, and money isnt the object, most of the manufacturers are willing to accomodate the customer. With a typical singlewide manufactured home, only the exterior walls are load bearing. Meaning you could literally tear out all the interior walls if you wanted to. Makes it easy to remodel a used home. I know of mobile home parks that purchase used homes, clean them up, do a little cosmetic work, and resell them. Asking price is usually twice what they paid for them. There's no reason why you couldn't purchase a used one yourself, and cut out the middle man. Good Luck
