I sat w/a sales rep with a builder the other day and I picked out a style of home and the upgrades I wanted. The base price of the home was 172k, w/the upgrades the total came to 212k. I'm pre approved w/my own mortgage broker. The builder owns their own mortgage company and I don't mind using them as long as I get a good deal. I haven't made any contact with them about any offers yet, but plan to this week. Other builders in the area are offering homes with similar square footage and dollar amount of upgrades for about 167k. But the other homes are 1.5 story, what I picked out was a ranch. It doesn't matter to me what style it is. What I'm concerned about is payment, upgrades, and getting the most square footage. Does 165k sound like an unreasonable starting price for the home I picked out. I plan on using the other builders home/price as an argument. The other builder has the price of their home on the website. It appears it's in the process of being built. These homes are in the St. Louis, MO area. Any other tips I should use to get me the best deal I can. Thanks
