Cost of architectural design?

I am looking into having a home designed and was wondering what the average was cost of design and development is. The project will range from 1500-2500 SF. It will be a conventional house. Wood framed with some brick. It will be in the Houston area. I don't have any lot information yet.

1. That would be easier to answer if you state your geographic area and the type of house (masonry, frame, log, etc.), whether the site is prepped or virgin, and whether this will be a fairly conventional house (a basic McMansion) or something extremely unique.
