i was hoping to get a new female as a companion for a male budgie who recently lost his male friend?

the male is from a breeder and i plan to get the companion female (or male if the mating situation seems to be a problem) from a pet shop which has beautiful healthy youngsters at the moment i'd like for them to breed but i'm worred about stopping them from doing so in order to control numbers i do not want to have a large aviary and am unsure if any pet shops or people in the area are interested in taking on the chicks they will live in a house (not sure how to describe it, its octagonal with a sloped roof, closed in halfway round and then mesh on half) outside which has glass to be put in over the mesh during colder times and can be removed in the summer the current bird has been quite happy living this way but this house only has room for 6 or so birds to live with a fair bit of space so i would be unable to keep large numbers on a permenant basis is there a sure fire way to stop birds mating, and if not does anyone have any advice in terms of selling/giving the birds away and deals with pet shops (i'm not in it for the money so hopefully it would be an appealing deal for pet shops to get free/ very low priced birds. most sell for £12-£25 near me and i would only want £1-£2 per bird if that) i have spoken to a pet shop owner who has said that i can see how he goes with potential friends and then if they dont get along i can exchange which is very nice of her is it possible to tell how well they get along with them in seperate cages? they seemed to be quite happy chirping to eachother and are sitting in cages next to eachother quietly now saying that i dont really know what they'd do if they didnt get along any advice?

  1. He was with a male so long he may not accept a female. Also he may not accept the male you pick. I suggest you take him along to pick his own friend. Don't even worry about what to do with the chicks until you reach that point.
