Kitchen Design ideas?
I am having a home built and starting everything from scratch, I would like a few ideas. We have custom oak cabinetry being made, we can pick the stain color. We are planning on having just vinyl flooring, it will have stainless steel appliances. It will have a formica counter top. So my question is, What is a nice combination of stains/counter colors/floor design to compliment each other. I like rich colors, clean lines and a nice flow. The flooring will flow from the kitchen to the bathroom and laundry room also. Any idea would be nice.

- Why would you have oak cabinets with vynl flooring and formica? It seems to be counter productive to have inferior flooring and countertop with custom cabs.
- Just doing the back of my house, oak kitchen cabinets, oak flooring and butchers block black walnut counter tops. We are using a clear satin hard wax oil on the floor to preserve as much light as possible but where possible I think oak benefits from a bit of red in the stain to make it richer. Anyhow good luck.
- Choose a vinyl floor that mimics wood, caramel should be easy to find. Then closely match the stain for the cabinets to the floor. since you are using stainless steel I would choose a very dark colored counter formica. The colors you choose can make All the materials look expensive. You don't need a lot of money to do it with good taste. For instance, black and tan looks very classy no matter what the material is. You see it used in cars and clothing as well. Use very warm throw rugs. Ikea has good deals on orientals. Get burgundy, navy blue, deep green combinations. They stay clean and wear like iron. You can often finds these rugs used, as they always out live the owner.
- Choose hardwood flooring, they look great, good quality and has different styles and colors to choose from. In designing for you kitchen, the primary emphasis must be on utilizing the available area well and creating or freeing up more space to allow convenient storage, easy installation of required kitchen appliances and to facilitate movement.
