Interior Design- Would a black setee go with purple wallpaper?

Im decorating my living room and Ive decided I want a feature wall which is purple flowers (see link below).I have got a dark walnut floor and black and grey/silver settee and matching curtains. I want my other 3 walls a plain lighter purple paint. Do you think this sounds ok or do you think i need to get lighter flooring and a cream settee? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K2-Starburst-Alium-Damson-Purple-Wallpaper-Floral-10440_W0QQitemZ310195427443QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Wallpaper?hash=item4839169873 this is the wallpaper that i want. sorry you will have to copy and paste the link

  1. You good old Brits. You are always about wall paper with huge flowers. Here, in the US, that just doesn't work. What about simple paint ? I hope you can see this link. It gives great ideas for purple living rooms.http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4ADRA_enUS359US359&q=purple+living+rooms&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=4gRaS7SqNI7h8QaiorSABQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CB4QsAQwAA Enjoy decorating .
  2. Nice wall paper I personally think that if you are painting the other walls purple aswell, then you would need a light settee like the cream one in the photo! Otherwise it would look very dark I think the walnut flooring would look nice or a cream carpet? Personally i would have the wall paper on the feature wall, then paint the other wall cream, have a cream carpet and this sofa! http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/fabric/serina/ But its all personal preference!! we all have different tastes, as i would have the cream carpet instead, despite preffering wooden floors :-s Either way, that wall paper is lovelly :)
  3. That is really cool wallpaper! Another choice for the other 3 walls is to match the grey/silver color in the wallpaper flowers. It might be a bit lighter and purple can overwhelm if used in large quantities. You could cut out some of the flowers from your wallpaper and frame them for your artwork and hang them on the grey walls opposite the wallpapered wall. That would unify the area. Then you can use more purple and silver for throw pillows and other accents. The design rule is to have the accent color in 3 places around the room. Any more than that and your eyes jump around and it looks too busy. I like the dark walnut floors for richness. Since there are darker colors lighting will be key to a warm design. I would be sure to have good task lighting. 3 lamps in a living room is standard. Then have overhead lighting that is on a dimmer. Be sure to have lots of silver, mirrors and glass in the room to bounce the light around. Good luck-I am excited for you! I wish you would post the finished room for us to see.
