Architectural Designs

What are your thoughts on modern Ponte Vecchios?

One of my favorite architectural designs today is none other than the Kubuswoning in Rotterdam, Holland. It's an array of numerous tilted cube houses mounted on a footbridge. Here is a picture of it right here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rotterdam_Cube_House.jpg I think the architect borrowed the idea from the Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence, Italy. Anyway, would you support urban planning that entails building bridges with several houses and/or apartments on it overlooking a river? Imagine a bridge the size of the Brooklyn or Golden Gate Bridge that has a large quantity of residences on there. Would that be prime real estate? Would that help with urban sprawl? Here is a picture of the Ponte Vecchio to give an idea of what I'm describing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Italy_and_Greece_105.jpg Does anyone have any tangible thoughts on this?

  1. Out of curiosity why is that your favorite architectural design ? It reminds me of a song from the 60's by a lady named Malvina Reynolds: Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky-tacky, Little boxes, little boxes, Little boxes, all the same. There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one And they're all made out of ticky-tacky And they all look just the same I know i'm not addressing your actual question but wondering why such cold and industrial design is used as actual housing for human beings.. It's not any better than urban government housing in my view.
