Architectural Designs

Architectural Design Question!?

Ok. I'm 14. I know you have to get a degree in architectural design before you can design anything. But there are many pieces of land around my area, and i would love to design some houses that are going there. (Do i send away my designs to all local builders (i don't know who's building there) I'm confused. And how much money would i get for designing about 15 houses. Please genuine answers. Thanks :)

  1. study for 7 years and get further 5 years experience. Then you can. Its not too hard.
  2. Depending on the laws of your state, the regulations governing when and actual registered architects seal is required on residential house plans can vary. Generally...........and I mean generally...........to do residential design, using conventional building methods, as long as the single family residence is no higher than two stories, no larger that 6,000 square feet and not in a district zoned for any other purpose, you do not need to be an Architect. As soon as you want to design/build something uber-cool like in Dwell, Modernism, or some of the other hip home magazines out there or it is a duplex or it has three stories, you need to be an Architect. www.ncarb.org is a great website to educate yourself on what it takes to become an Architect in your state. First you should contact the developer...........your city should have a Planning Department. Developers are required to submit "platting" to the city so that the City can build water lines, sewer lines, and roads in the correct locations. The developer will have all of there contact info all over these documents. You can ask to see them. Developers may or may not also build. They may sell the parcel (or parcels) to one or more contractor/builders, who inturn will sell what they build to home buyers. Contact the builders to see if they would liek to colaborate. Some may want to. Generally, residentail design Architects make a fee of 10% on the cost to build the home. Given your age and that you are not an architect, expect to be "low-balled". Say a lump sum fee of $300..........negotiate, ask for more, perks, experience, etc. Bottom line, you could work your way to maybe 2.5% to 3%. Good luck
  3. you can't just design houses and get paid for it unless you're a design professional. there are a lot of things you will have to consider not only aesthetics. you'd have to follow building codes and only an experienced architect should do that. if you want you can learn from a knowledgeable architect if you're really that interested. wait till you're old enough to study architecture, if that's what u really want
  4. I don't disagree with the other answers you've received. However, it seems you enjoy design very much. You're lucky to know what you want to do at your age. My advice is to draw the designs you feel like drawing - because you enjoy it. Don't think about making money yet. Pursue the appropriate education, intern with a reputable architecture or design firm, and then think about how to do it on your own. Something like this works out a lot better in the long run if you take your time to do it right. When you do your designs, remember that every site presents unique challenges and you have to come up with unique solutions. See the link below to see how I went about designing a home.
