what is the punishment for building a faulty home in the U.S?

like if you are a builder, and by something that is your fault in the design or building or whatever, that you didn't mean to be there, what is the punishment? and can you give me a link to any site that would list that, i need to cite this. thank you sorry accidently deleted part of my post, i was going to say that if the building collapses and kills people, what would the punishment be?

3. I think its a state law so check your local county or state government sites.
4. It's not a criminal offence, but you could be sued by anyone who was hurt if the building collapsed (or their families of anyone who died), and most likely have to pay compensation. You would probably also face loss of registration or licensing as well. I don't have any sources, but they shouldn't be too hard to come by.
