- I tell you as others, your eye see's what you want and the best design will be in pictures of landscaped lawns. These people have exhausted huge amounts of time and money to have what they have and it is there for you to have for free. Just look and let your eyes mind choose what you want. and not what someone else wants. Hope this helps
- Well, first of all if this is for a class then I understand why this question is so complex. It's a complicated way of explaining something that is basically VERY simple! Use odd numbers of the same type of plant....never use even numbers. The key is to make it look "natural" & in nature, odd numbers are more common. Choose what is proper for the zone- things that grow well there. Use plants based on what they need; ie, east, north, west or south exposure. Choose what you like; you're basically making a piece of art when you do landscaping. However, look at what's "naturally or already there" first, like a live oak tree, a stream, a brick wall, house or driveway. Then don't put trees around the house that will dwarf the home. The idea is to compliment the home & nature. Use shiny plants next to flat toned plants. But if you put shiny plants on one side of the front of the house, balance the other side with the same plants. Put large bushes behind smaller ones. If planting flowers, the same principle applies. Use the same flowers all the way around, then put smaller ones in front- with bushes or trees in between. It does NOT have to be perfect! You just want it to be pleasing to the eye. Always choose one focal point to start with, like the oak tree- or a large fountain in the front yard. Build a bed around it & fill it in using examples above. Reflect some of the same flowers as in front of the house, then add some different colors for emphasis. It's much like decorating rooms of a home. You choose a few colors you like, for your main colors. Then throw in a few red vases & pillows for drama. Same with landscaping. Hope this helps. Definitely look at some garden sites on the net--there are many pictures of landscaping; you'll get the idea!
