Would you say this is a good thing?

I am 18 and very much interested in death customs and I have planned my funeral, designed my own mausoleum (at age 10), and told people what I want them to wear at my funeral. Like I said, this has been a life long obsession for me and I started thinking about mausoleums at around 10 after I visited one. I think they're beautiful and want to have mine built before I die so that I can see it and be in it and paint the walls and decorate it in a way that I like. I told everyone that if I were to die young, I want them all to wear black at my funeral and I want the ladies to have black lace veils in their faces and black gloves and men in tuxedos and I want everything to be very fancy and sophisticated. I have never met another person my age who has an interest in mausoleums and funeral-planning. I think I would be a great funeral director and I've always wanted to own my own funeral home and be the one who fixes everything and greets people, but I don't have enough money to start a business. Do you think that being obsessed with death and the beauty of it to be a good or a bad thing?

  1. If im honest i don't think its a good thing at age 10 but its not entirely a bad thing. I do think you should wait until you get a bit older before you think about ur own funural, unless of course you think ur guna die any time soon. But its alright to be obsessed with mausoluems if u want to make a career out of organizing funurals and stuff. and its always gd to see the beauty side of it to take a bit of the sadness away from 'death'
  2. Please, for the love of god, get mental help. I am not saying this to be disrespectful but having someone to talk to( who won't judge you) about this feeling might help you. I am not saying that you are crazy but no normal minded person wishes these kind of things. You do know that when you die you won't be able to see the attention that they give your coffin, right? Funeral director 's don't wish to die they wish to give comfort to the families of people who have died and give these people a proper respectful service, not gawking over them wishing you were the one in the box.
  3. Well.. If you aren't obsessed in that you'd actually LIKE to die (as in, like, now) then it isn't too bad I don't think. I mean, it's good to not be afraid to die.
  4. Goodness me, shades of "Harold and Maude"! You have got to see that movie! It was made in the early 70's. Trust me, you gotta see it, you'll love it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with your interest in death or its customs. But, you are right, it is quite uncommon. Go to college, get a degree in mortuary science, a master's is also often desired or required by potential employers. The pay is very good and within a few years, you should be able to start your own mortuary. Invest in a cemetery and mausoleum as you grow your business. There always business in the death trade, there are ever more of us, meaning that there are ever more deaths to build a business upon. Good luck. Auntie Kookoo
  5. Yeah, what cjmjm1 said. You should talk to a qualified mental health professional as soon as possible.
  6. As someone famous once said "I want to die young and leave a beautiful corpse" Is it actually your own 'death' that you're interested in? From your question, I'm not sure it is. It seems you're more interested in a kind of "event planning". What I mean is, most 10 year olds design castles and plan their weddings, so is what you're doing really that different? I don't think so. If you really do have a healthy obsession with death, and making the last passage to rest as good as it could be, it seems you could have a great career as an undertaker. Yes, you dont have enough money to start your own business, but how about an apprenticeship in a funeral directors/parlour to get you into it, and save some money so that in the future you can go out alone?
  7. To be obsessed with anything is a bad thing to me.Death is forever and life is short, So enjoy your life to the hilt now and deal with Death when it arrives.
