How much would I make working for an interior design firm?

I would love to pursue a career as an interior designer, and based on my research, I would earn more working for an interior design firm rather than a free-lance interior designer (is this true??). Can anyone give me some advice? Also how should I start building a resume now when I'm 16 for when I study in university for a bachelor's degree?
