Is Mechanical Engineering the right career path for me?
I'm a twenty-six year old mother and I just finished my first semester in college. I'm thinking of majoring in Mechanical Engineering because it seems to be the most flexible, in terms of career choices, of all the engineering majors. However, what I eventually want to do is help to develop green technologies related to building and building design. Is M.E. the right choice for me, as far as, a major is concerned for my career direction, or might something else be a better option for me? Creative suggestions welcomed.

- You alone can decide!
- Major in Mechanical engineering with a concentration in Energy/Environment. It might be called something different, but you focus on technical problems related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental issues, global warming, etc... Example: https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/majorinfo/ASU00/ESMAEEBSE/undergrad/false?init=false&nopassive=true This is the one at my school. Look for something similar at your local university. You could also major in Environmental Engineering (under Civil Engineering branch). It's a little different (but still similar). More Chemistry oriented. Remember that Civil Engineers are the people who design buildings/structures. Maybe this is what you are looking for.
