Architectural Designs

What is the best freeware or inexpensive home design or remodel software?

I have some architectural training, am a graphic designer and wish to draw my own plans for an addition and new dormer for my home.

  1. Actually any of them you see still on the shelf is good. Sometimes at office max or circuit city you can get a good one for $20 and a good enough one for $10 Nothing is free. Especially download. It is all gonna cost you one way or another.
  2. Google Sketchup is an easy-to-use 3D modeling software that enables you to create 3D models of houses, buildings and many other objects, using an array of drag and drop tools and materials in a WYSIWYG editing environment. You can design your objects with rectangles, circles, ovals, arcs, lines and freehand drawings, and use a unique push/pull tool to add dimension to 2D objects....etc. Freeware. http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/misctools/fwhomehobby.html
