Can I use an air horn on my neighbors dog?
My neighbors have a dog that although is very nice and friendly barks non stop when they are not home. We live in a condo building so there are frequently people jogging by, cars driving by, or other condo owners walking their dogs since none of us have a back yard. Due to these reasons the dog is constantly barking and since they are in the unit below me I get to listen to this all day long and it drives me crazy. My plan is to sit outside on our shared patio and when someone walks by and the dog starts to bark blow off an air horn in the window that the dog is barking out of. Now for anyone that thinks this is horribly mean to the dog, feel free to suggest other more humane alternatives. My question is can I get in trouble for blowing an air horn at a dog, I don't want to do anything that will end up with the police at my house... is there a website where I could look up what is and what is not considered animal cruelty?

- How about instead you call the owner of the building & file a complaint? I'd be pissed if someone blew an airhorn at my dog. Maybe the owners don't realize their dogs are doing this because they work during the day. Perhaps once they are aware they can put their dogs in an area where they can't see who is passing by or can work on training to solve the issue.
- Actually, that IS very mean to the dog. And yes, I think you could get in trouble for that. Have you tried talking to the owner about this? If he refuses to do anything, or just ignores you, and it gets to be a real problem, then you can call someone (SPCA or park services or animal cruelty or something like that... sorry can't remember) to look into the situation, and whether the dog is being properly cared for or not. Hope I helped!
- You go right ahead - I'd do the same thing. Of course I would reinforce my own entrance door first, because the neighbours are going to beat it down and lynch me for compounding the noise issues.
- Sure, and hopefully they do the same thing to you!
