what is the software that is used for testing building designs?

i have seen it used for testing like what happens in the case of earthquakes and such or just testing if the design will work period. i am thinking of becoming an architect and would like to get this software.

1. Check out Autodesk's web site. All the architects in my company use it. I'm not sure if it does what you ask, but it seems to be a requisite for everyone in that department.
