What would be the best thing to do?!?!?

OK so im planing on getting a parakeet, and i have done some reasearch so dont worry. . My parents are divorced and im at my dads house every other week(i usually stay there 2 and a half days...its rare for me to stay longer unless im on vacation..again that's also rare.)What i was planning on buying was two appropriate size cadges and put one in each house, and then use a smaller cadge to transport him.I cant leave him at my moms house because my mom wouldnt want to take care of him unless she really has to.I dont like the idea of leaving him alone for more then 8 hours(thats only because of school, but on Mondays i have cross country meets, and on Thursdays i have sectionals for band and dance.)Im only getting one because this is my first time as a bird owner, and i would like to have a special bond with him. I am also very dedacated to spending all the free time with him!One more question i have is where do i take him to get his wings/nails clipped? THANK!!

  1. I am really sorry to say this, but for now I think it's best if you don't have one. I had a parakeet (for eight and a half years!) and I know first hand that she hated being moved from cage to cage. They like having one spot that they always live in. I had to bring her from my regular house to my country house every week (most weeks out of the year) and she hated that more than anything. If you want one that badly, I'd try to get one of your parents to agree to take care of it when you're not at their house. That way you can still have one and it will be able to stay in one place. Other than trying that, I think it's best if you don't get one. I'm sorry! I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's for the best of the parakeet. And if you do get one, you can always take it to the vet every couple of weeks to get their nails clipped. I don't suggest getting their wings clipped, because their parakeets and want to be able to fly.
  2. Get one single bird and transport him from one home to the next. Your bird will learn to love to travel. I trim my own birds wings and nails. I also have a Sandy Perch which keeps nails trim. Be sure to get a hand raised bird that will love you.
  3. sounds like you're very busy... i would suggest you wait until you have a much more stable life. i was once like you... during my high school days i always wanted to have parakeets, but i can't, knowing i don't have that much time for commitment. but soon enough you'll have a more stable life, and that's when you're allowed to have them! i'm really sorry, didn't mean anything bad, but really, your life sounds busy!
