Soaker hose to cool house roof?
I live in area with a private well - water supply is not a problem. I'm thinking of placing a soaker hose on the house roof peak. I would wet the roof on hot days. A fancy / commercial version would have a thermostat controlled valve. Are there products on the market or DIY plans?

- first thought is it maybe a little bit more expensive but putting insulation into that attic or roof space would be a better investment, paying off in both the summer and winter, because if its transferring that much heat into the house, its also nailing you in the colder month when your heating. now I would use an oscillating sprinkler located on the peak, it will provide better and wider coverage, which is what you looking for. Go to lowes or home depot, buy a garden timer, I use one from vigro ? costs $20, its programmable, and you can set it up to turn on 6 times a day, starting at 1:00 pm and run 20 minutes.
- good concept.if it is a painted metal roof.if they are asphalt strip shingles.it will ware them out in no time.good luck.
- Use a "soak-n-spray" hose......it puts out lots of very small streams down the length of the hose. Ours is installed at the peak of the roof and draining to both sides.....metal roof.....no insulation. It drops the ambient inside my cabinet shop a good 10F during hot summer months. The volume of water used is not that much as we only turn it on manually during the hottest of days here in southwest Mississippi.
