Can a propane grill be stored in the house when not is use?

I am planning on buying one. I would use it in the backyard and let it cool completely before bringing it inside. Under normal circumstances I would store it in my backyard but I have no way of locking my gate. I fear someone stealing my grill yet I don't know how safe it is to store propane in the house. Another idea would be to get a cover for it and chain it to the backyard fence but I don't know if that would suffice. Thanks!

1. id leave the propane in the garage or something if it were me
2. The grill can, but don't bring the propane tank inside. That's where the danger lies....
