Interior design business? ?
Hi im currently studying interior design and I have ambitions of having my own interior design firm designing living spaces but also having a show room of bespoke furniture that was supplied by suppliers.. Would I be contradicting myself if I was to cater for both ends of the market by designing living spaces with furniture from somewhere else instead if using furniture I stocked? For example if a person couldn't afford the furniture I stocked? Also how would I go about having a business like this?

- If you are studying interior design, then your next two steps are to do as well as you can in your classes, sign up for any internships possible to get your foot in the door for a job. Your next step is to get a paying job. Working at a firm and learning the ins and outs of the business is a must. I think that you need to get into "the business" by becoming employed and get experience first before worrying about how to get your own firm. That is years down the line. Take one step at a time.
- As a certified interior designer, I agree with Yogi. You can't just graduate from school and open up your own interior design business. It just simply doesn't work that way. You have to work in the industry first before setting shop on your own. There are so many variables and there is so much that needs to be learned before you can reach your goal. First graduate with your certification, get a job in the field and work your way up the ladder. If you still feel that you want to open your own firm then do so but you are in for a lot of work.
