Where should I start with designing my house?

Hello there. My name is Chase and I just started going to a Technical high school 2 months ago. I'm (most likely) taking up an Architectural shop. I got the idea of trying to build/design my own house just for a starting challenge towards myself. I was thinking of working on it everyday since I have a good notebook with lined paper and graph paper side by side, for notes and examples. I was just wondering, where should I start? So far, I know about an "Airplane" view, otherwise known as a floor plan, a side view (a first person look in one direction inside of the area, mainly from the center of the room.) I understand this will be easier with an Architectural design program on the computer, but I just want to start off on paper. Is there anything else I should know? I understand that this is a very vague question and it might be hard to understand, but what should I do? Thank you, FailSafe. But I have another question. :/ Do I really have to draw all of the wiring directions, water tanks, and things like that? Most Floor Plans and Side Views don't look like they include that.

  1. I would start by drawing the outer walls of the home then work your way in, definitely keep in mind the stairs (if there are any), front door, and area where the water tank and pipes will need to be as that will be important and try to be consistent in the measurements if you are going that far. If you'd plan to move large furniture in, keep that in mind too.
  2. Yap you will need to include all the small details of your floor plan when we say small details these includes the wiring, water tanks and so on for the floor plan would serve as your blue print.
