Heard of place that celebrates life and not religion?

So, I have heard of these places (sometimes even called a church) that are designed to have people celebrate and worship life, versus an actual religion. Have you heard of it? Do you know what they call these places? How would I find them? I don't find myself particularly fond of religion and i have questioned the existence of a higher power from some time now. One thing I am honest to admit is the values and morals that a conventional church brings - I see the importance in them and believe it could help at times. I just don't want to go to a church and be told to live a certain way because God believes its righteous, et cetera. (no offense to anyone who practices). I live in an area that has many churches available to me, but they all seem like what I am NOT looking for. I want to go to a place that promotes good living techniques, builds relationships, and keeps an open mind. Any suggestions, tips, et cetera? Thanks in advance!

  1. Sounds like humanitarianism..there is a group like that.
  2. I have found Unitarians to be highly liberal in their mores and ideas.
  3. check out the unitarians...they're a fun bunch...
  4. maybe quaker but they don't meet weekly. they have monthly and yearly meetings. they aren't hierarchical from what i have gathered. they are more spiritual than churchy.
  5. "Heard of place that celebrates life and not religion?" Sounds like a bar.
  6. try the Methodist church..but during sunday school.....service is too methodical....they don't pretend to understand every question or care about the stuff that doesn't matter....pick one with a food pantry and a soup kitchen....that says a lot about church.
  7. check out Buddaism, not a religion but based on morals & values also..One can be any religion or none & be a Buddhist... Hope you find your path
  8. I am sorry to say that I have not heard of one of these places but I have to be honest and say that you described all the attributes of a true relationship with Jesus. You see a lot of Churches now days preach religion which is the very thing that Jesus spoke against. The key is not finding one single place but rather finding a body of believers that are focused on building a relationship with Christ. Smaller churches are often very traditional, I would suggest that you look into some larger Churches as large as you are comfortable with. Once you find a place where grace is abundant and you can grow, get plugged in and the rest will begin to work itself out. Hope this helps!
  9. I can only give you an answer that relates to myself. MY place, is within myself. I do not belong to an organized religion and after years of investigating, searching, asking, reading, I have come to the conclusion, that I not follow any organization and that I should be the best that I can be by choosing the right path for ME.. I choose to follow the best in most religions, read the books that will enlighten my mind and assist me in learning more. For me it is an ever ending learning experience, where I find I am "growing" by experiencing! Since making this decision I have become more peaceful, less frustrated and less judge mental. I do not feel that I am right and everyone else wrong, I just know that this is the right way for me. We are all unique and all have different levels of awareness. I have to look to myself and assist myself in this process and not expect others to be on that same pathway as myself. I follow Jesus' teachings also those of Buddha and other great souls. I accept certain teachings in the bible that I can interpret as being the most loving way - "The Lord is my Shepherd" for instance. You have your own path to walk, and no one can, or should tell you which path that is. Only you will know when you find it. I have lived a long life and I wish that I had started on my journey a long time ago, when I was younger but that also, was for a reason, I suppose. I am 76 years young.!
