What 4 year college degree should I get?

I like to weld, ran a lathe, design and build things, run auto cad on the computer, and fly real and model air planes. I would like to get a job as a commercial pilot or start a business building either custom motorcycles or dune buggies. I would like to get a degree in something other than aviation like welding or machining. Is there such a thing as a 4 year welding or machining degree? I have considered engineering but I don't know if that would be exactly what I want to do. thanks for any comments

  1. mechanical engineering / industrial hygiene or engineering these degrees will become a much more internationally desired field in years to come they imply a varied knowledge of many subjects and a versatility that many employers like. you will benefit by any of them
  2. Aerospace Engineering
  3. Your best bet would be to get a degree in business or management. You can take elective classes in welding and machine tool working just for fun, but a business degree will teach you what you need to know to run a successful business.
  4. Technologist degree. Some of the Virginia universities and NVCC have that curriculum.
  5. Anything other than aviation. Engineering and business are probably the best. Today it is becoming rare to find airline pilots that do not have a "day job". Airline pilots will have numerous periods of unemployment in their career and will need to have an income source that does not rely on the airlines. I work full time now as a software engineer and do much better. My cousin still fly for the airlines but married a wealthy dentist who owns a large dental clinic.
